Job Overview
We are seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented Optician /Technician to join our dynamic healthcare team. In this vital role, you will assist licensed optometrists by preparing patients, managing optical equipment, and ensuring the highest standards of patient care and confidentiality. Responsibilities
- Assist with patient intake by recording medical history, and updating electronic health records (EHR/EMR systems)
- Prepare patients for eye examinations, including performing basic physiology assessments and vision tests
- Dispense spectacle lenses and assist with eyewear fittings, adjustments, and repairs to ensure proper fit and comfort.
- Manage retail sales transactions using POS systems and cash registers while providing excellent customer service
- Support ophthalmic procedures by understanding medical terminology, anatomy, and ophthalmology-specific protocols
- Ensure compliance with HIPAA regulations and clinical confidentiality policies during all patient interactions and record handling
Qualifications
- Previous experience in optical retail or clinical settings, with knowledge of optics, eyewear fitting, and spectacle lens dispensing
- Familiarity with EMR/EHR systems such as Epic or similar platforms for medical records management
- Strong understanding of health regulation policies including HIPAA, state healthcare regulations, and medical billing procedures
- Experience with laboratory techniques related to eyewear manufacturing and adjustments
- Knowledge of medical terminology, physiology, anatomy, and ophthalmology principles relevant to eye care services
- Ability to perform basic math calculations for retail transactions, insurance processing, and dosage measurements
- Excellent customer service skills with a proactive approach to patient care and communication
