This is an exciting time to work for Amarillo College! We are seeking our next Maintenance Technician II who will be all-in on our mission and who performs skilled work in the installation, maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of campus facilities and building systems, including plumbing, electrical, HVAC, and general mechanical equipment. This position supports the safe, efficient, and continuous operation of college facilities through preventive maintenance, timely corrective repairs, and assistance with renovation and improvement projects. The Maintenance Technician II ensures work is completed in accordance with applicable codes, safety standards, and Amarillo College service expectations.
EDUCATION:
Required: High School Diploma or GED.
EXPERIENCE:
Required: Five (5) years of experience in maintenance and repair.
Preferred: Three (3) years of journeyman-level experience.
CERTIFICATES/LICENSES:
Required: Valid Texas Class C Driver’s License with a minimum three (3) year safe driving record.
- Working knowledge of plumbing, electrical, HVAC, and mechanical systems.

Knowledge of applicable building, electrical, and HVAC codes and standards.

Knowledge of chillers, boilers, and preventive maintenance practices.

Ability to read and interpret blueprints, schematics, and technical manuals.

Skill in the safe use and maintenance of hand and power tools.

Salary: Amarillo College follows a lag pay strategy, with starting offers typically between the minimum and midpoint of the pay grade, rarely reaching the maximum to support long-term growth within each position.
Pay grade
8 Amarillo College Pay Grades (salary is determined by Human Resources based on education, work experience and internal comparisons).
Physical Demands: While performing the duties of this position, the employee is frequently required to stand, walk, bend, stoop, crouch, crawl, reach, push, pull, and work in confined spaces and varying environmental conditions. The position requires working in wet areas, exposure to odors associated with plumbing systems, and lifting, carrying, pushing, or pulling objects up to thirty (30) pounds independently and heavier objects with assistance or appropriate equipment.
Working Environment: This position requires a flexible schedule and participation in a rotating on-call emergency maintenance schedule, which may include evenings, weekends, holidays, and overtime as needed. Work is performed both indoors and outdoors in a variety of weather conditions.
