Position Summary
The Early Childhood Mental Health Consultant (ECMHC) will support Peninsula Family Services’ (PFS) nine childcare facility locations. The ECMHC will provide mental health consultation services to educators, children, and families in early learning settings, helping foster emotionally supportive, trauma-informed environments for young children. The ECMH Consultant will work collaboratively with agencies, teachers, directors, families, and therapists.
Key Responsibilities:
● Mental Health Consultation & Direct Services:
● Provide on-site and remote mental health consultation to early childhood staff to support children’s social-emotional development and mental wellness.
● Conduct classroom observations to assess social-emotional dynamics and support teachers in implementing effective classroom strategies.
● Provide individual mental health counseling and social-emotional assessments for children as needed.
● Offer parent-child relationship support and trauma-informed interventions to help families address emotional or behavioral challenges.
● Collaborate with agency staff to support referrals, follow-up on developmental and mental health assessments, and integrate services with other supports.
● Collaboration & Communication:
● Participate in multidisciplinary team meetings to share insights on children’s progress and provide practical guidance to teachers and family support staff.
● Work closely with PFS program leadership to prioritize services across the following sites based on need:

Data & Compliance:
- Ensure that all services are culturally responsive, developmentally appropriate, and aligned with best practices in early childhood mental health.
- Adhere to HIPAA and applicable state confidentiality regulations.
- Track and report service data, including the number of children served, types and frequencies of services provided, and progress toward goals, in compliance with state and federal reporting requirements.
Service Delivery & Scheduling:
- Provide approximately 16 hours of consultation services per week, including on-site visits, administrative time, and clinical supervision.
- Travel to multiple childcare sites throughout the week, with flexibility to adjust hours based on programmatic needs, site closures, or emergent issues.
- Maintain a consistent schedule and ensure continuity of services; coordinate with OLCC leadership to provide coverage during extended absences.
Qualifications:
● Either in or completed a Masters Program (MFT, MSW or PCC)
● Experience providing mental health services in early childhood education or pediatric settings.
● Strong knowledge of trauma-informed care, social-emotional development in young children, and culturally responsive practices.
● Excellent communication, collaboration, and consultation skills.
● Ability to work independently across multiple sites while maintaining a high standard of professional care.
● Bilingual abilities (Spanish/English) are a plus but not required.
Work Environment:
- Services will be provided across multiple childcare sites in San Mateo County.
- Some remote administrative work and participation in virtual meetings are expected.
- This is a part-time consulting position with a flexible schedule to accommodate programmatic priorities.

- Monthly All Staff Meetings (virtual 4th Tuesday of each month 8:30-9)
- Yearly August Training in person
- Biweekly 1 hour meeting with ECMH Director

Existing Base Hourly Rate
