The Fish and Wildlife Technician II position provides critical support to the Program Coordinator and biologist in the Streams Investigations Branch. Along with assisting with sampling of fish populations, maintaining equipment needed to perform the fish population sampling, and assists in compiling data. Proper sampling is vital in making management recommendations for streams and rivers in Kentucky.
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
Assist biologist(s) with field data collections using standardized fisheries methods and appropriate gear types.
Operate and maintain all project equipment including boats, trailers, vehicles, trap nets, hoop nets, gill nets, trot lines and other sampling equipment and prepares for field use.
Assist in design and fabrication of equipment as needed.
Perform data entry and results compilations.
Assist other fisheries staff with population studies, habitat improvement work, fish harvest and fish transport.
Initiate purchases as directed by following state and agency policies and procedures. Assist in maintaining project inventories.
Interact professionally with the public.
Perform other duties as assigned.

Minimum Requirements
EDUCATION: High school graduate.
EXPERIENCE, TRAINING, OR SKILLS: Must have one year of fishery, wildlife or habitat management/development experience.
Substitute EDUCATION for EXPERIENCE: Additional related training will substitute for the required experience on a year for year basis.
Substitute EXPERIENCE for EDUCATION: Experience in fisheries, wildlife or habitat management/development will substitute for the required education on a year for year basis.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS (AGE, LICENSURE, REGULATION, ETC.): Must possess a valid driver's license prior to appointment in this classification. Must maintain any required licensure(s), certification(s), or other credentials for the length of employment in this classification. Employing agency is responsible for ensuring employee possesses and maintains required licensure(s), certification(s) or other credentials.

Probationary Period
This job has an initial and promotional probationary period of 6 months, except as provided in KRS 18A.111.
