Blackwell, Burke, Fowler & Rossow, P.C. is seeking an experienced paralegal to support the firm’s bankruptcy and creditors’ rights practice. This position will also serve as an assistant to a chapter 7 panel trustee for the Southern District of Indiana. This role combines transactional and litigation support with chapter 7 trustee case administration, offering variety across debtor, creditor, and trustee-side work.
Responsibilities
- Draft correspondence, notices, discovery requests, subpoenas, routine motions, and other legal documents for attorney review.
- Assist with contested bankruptcy matters and adversary proceedings, including preferences, fraudulent transfers, discharge and dischargeability claims, claim objections, stay-relief matters, and asset recovery.
- Support creditor matters involving collections, foreclosures, receiverships, replevin, loan workouts, and enforcement proceedings.
- Review loan documents, security agreements, UCC filings, mortgages, payment histories, proofs of claim, and business records.
- Organize exhibits and assist with discovery, depositions, hearings, trials, and appeals.
- Calendar and monitor filing deadlines, response dates, objection periods, and hearings.
- File documents through CM/ECF and obtain case information through PACER and applicable state-court systems.
- Maintain organized and accurate electronic case files.
- Support a chapter 7 panel trustee, including: review bankruptcy petitions, schedules, statements of financial affairs, tax returns, bank records, and other financial documents; assist in identifying assets, transfers, claims, exemptions, and matters requiring further investigation; prepare case files and supporting materials for meetings of creditors; follow up with debtors and counsel regarding documents, turnover obligations, tax refunds, and other estate matters; follow up with debtors and counsel regarding documents, turnover obligations, tax refunds, and other estate matters; track asset sales, settlements, claims, objection periods, hearings, and case-closing requirements; assist with trustee reports, banking records, distributions, and estate administration using TrusteSolutions and Blue Stylus.
- Maintain case calendars, deadlines, and docketing across all matters.
Preferred Qualifications
- Prior paralegal or legal-assistant experience in bankruptcy, creditors’ rights, commercial litigation, collections, or a related field.
- Familiarity with CM/ECF, PACER, bankruptcy petitions and schedules, and federal and state court procedures.
- Working knowledge of the Bankruptcy Code, Federal Rules of Bankruptcy Procedure, and local bankruptcy rules.
- Proficiency with CM/ECF, PACER, Odyssey, Best Case, TrusteSolutions, Blue Stylus, and Clio.
- Strong organizational skills and close attention to detail.
- Ability to review financial records and recognize inconsistencies or missing information.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to manage multiple matters, deadlines, and follow-up items.
- Sound judgment when handling confidential financial and personal information.
- Ability to work independently and keep the responsible attorneys informed of important developments.
- Notary public certification.

Pay: From $55,000.00 per year
