Minimum Educational Requirements: ·
Registered Nurse with current Illinois license with a preferred minimum of two years’ experience in community health or child health nursing.
Duties and responsibilities specific to this position, not inclusive:
Maintain databases
Perform duties of the Vaccine for Children (VFC) program
Perform duties of the Women Infant and Children (WIC) program
Monitor vaccine units and respond to alarms
Perform daily temperature checks on vaccine refrigerators and freezers and enter them in I-CARE
Assist primary vaccine coordinator with vaccine inventory
Assist with ordering clinical supplies when needed
Read and interpret patient information and make needed treatment decisions
Establish and grow working relationships with community partners
Provide information on local health programs and services
Assess needs of clients and provide educational instruction pertaining to health and social issues
Research ways to improve healthcare processes and improve patient outcome
Review history and determine what immunizations are needed for clients
Provide immunizations to adults and children
Calculate return dates and give advice regarding possible adverse reactions
Provide TB skin testing
Obtain fingerstick or venous specimens
Process urine specimens and urine pregnancy tests
Conduct oral assessment, provide oral/dental health education and apply fluoride varnish to children under age 3.
Assist with STD testing, and treatment
Assist with Communicable Disease reporting as needed
Act as a backup for STD nurse and CD nurse.
Participate in agency’s emergency response activities
Incorporate ethical standards of practice into all interactions, including the use of data and information
Adhere to HIPAA privacy regulations and OSHA safety standards
Interact effectively and professionally with all persons regardless of age, cultural, socioeconomic, educational, racial or ethnic background, sexual orientation, lifestyle and physical ability. Respect cultural, language and religious practices of others.
Assume responsibility for own professional growth
Assist with other nursing division duties as assigned
Requires competency in computer skills. Experience in data entry, word processing, and basic spreadsheet use is preferred.
· Requires travel by automobile. Valid driver’s license, proof of minimum insurance and vehicle required.
· Must have initiative, strong organization skills and ability to work independently while managing multiple tasks
· Able to present and conduct self in a professional manner; have a commitment to confidentiality; and willingness to work as a team.
· Presents ideas effectively, both orally and in writing, with linguistic and cultural competency.
· Identifies process deficiencies and recommends means for improvement.
· Ability to work among frequent interruptions and distraction with multiple concurrent tasks.
· Exposure to blood/body fluids, infectious agents, airborne pathogens
· Exposure to needles/syringes and waste handling.
· Occasional evening or weekend work.
