Position Summary: As a Direct Support Professional (DSP), you will support people in learning the skills needed to increase their independence in areas of life such as community involvement, job skills, education, personal health, and daily living skills.
Essential Job Functions:
o As a Direct Support Professional (DSP), you will support people in learning the skills needed to increase their independence in areas of life such as community involvement, job skills, education, personal health, and daily living skills.
o As the On Call DSP you will fill in as needed to relieve other staff when they are out due to leave, illness, etc. The hours will vary and may be morning, afternoon, evening, weekend, holiday, etc. The number of hours per week will vary and are anticipated to range from 10 to 30 hours per week.
o Staff must conduct themselves in a professional manner at all times in all service locations and community settings.
o Staff must conduct all activities in a safe and prudent manner.
o Staff shall establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with those contacted in the course of work.
o Staff must have regular and reliable attendance.
o Assist participants with Activities of Daily Living (ADLs):
- Provides services for developmentally disabled individuals such as schedules some client appointments for various services; transports clients; assists clients in completing forms.
- Work may include providing services in unconventional settings. These could include, but are not limited to parks, schools, libraries, transporting participant(s) in an automobile, or in client’s/family’s homes.
- Assist with daily tasks/chores like cooking, cleaning, medication management
- Support individuals to practice and maintain good hygiene
- Assist to ensure that the nutritional needs of persons served are met
- Provide transportation for residents as needed, ensuring safe driving practices
- Run errands with participant such as shopping and going to appointments, as needed
- Help participants engage in social activities and community outings to enhance their quality of life
- Encourage and foster individuals’ hobbies and interests, as needed
- Provide habilitation and required daily documentation
- Implement all training and support objectives according to participant’s programs, plans, and ISP timelines and agency training and support guidelines
- Support each participant in making choices that affect their life, honor their choices, and ensure that their choices and preferences are incorporated into their daily, weekly, and monthly activities
- Promote community inclusion/integration to the fullest extent
- Promote resident rights by advocating for their needs and preferences
- Document care provided - able to write concise and accurate progress notes and reports
- Monitor participants for indicators of any change in health condition that needs to be assessed by a medical professional and report any changes in participant’s conditions to the appropriate staff
- Follow health & safety protocols
- Maintain a safe and clean environment for participants
- Collaborate with a multidisciplinary team to develop and implement individualized care plans
o Physical Demands: Sits, stands, bends, lifts, and moves intermittently during work hours

Required Qualifications:
o Must be 19 years of age or older
o High school diploma or GED
o Valid driver’s license and current auto insurance
o Reliable vehicle to transport during shift
o Full range of motion, physical strength, and the ability to achieve and maintain training and certifications
o Successfully complete and pass all background checks including:
o Nebraska CPS Central Registry
o Nebraska State Patrol Criminal Background Check
o Nationwide Background Check
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience in long-term care or caregiving for individuals with disabilities
- Familiarity with Activities of Daily Living
- Ability to lift and assist residents as needed for their mobility needs
- Strong communication skills, empathy, and patience when working with diverse populations.
Certificates and Licenses:
· Valid driver's license/ Current Insurance
· First Aid/CPR/AED (training provided by Red Cross online or by designated local provider)
· NE DHHS MedAide Registration (training will be provided by NCG)
· MANDT (training will be provided by NCG)
