Overview
We are seeking a dedicated and skilled Orthodontic Dental Assistant to join our dynamic dental team. The ideal candidate will possess a strong background in dental assisting, with specialized knowledge in orthodontic procedures and patient care. Responsibilities
- Assist orthodontists during various procedures, including bracket placement, wire adjustments, and appliance fittings, ensuring smooth clinical operations.
- Prepare treatment rooms by sterilizing instruments, setting up dental equipment, and ensuring all materials are ready for patient appointments.
- Take and develop dental X-rays and 3D scans while adhering to safety protocols and radiation safety standards.
- Manage patient records using electronic medical record (EMR) systems such as Tops, ensuring accuracy and confidentiality in compliance with HIPAA regulations.
- Provide comprehensive patient care by explaining procedures, answering questions, and ensuring patient comfort throughout treatments.
- Process dental instruments following sterilization procedures and infection prevention protocols to maintain a sterile environment.
- Support administrative tasks such as scheduling appointments, verifying insurance information, and managing patient flow as a dental receptionist.
- Maintain clinical supplies inventory and ensure all dental equipment is functioning properly for efficient workflow.
- Adhere to clinical confidentiality policies while handling sensitive medical documentation and records.
- Demonstrate expertise in dental terminology, anatomy knowledge, and general dentistry practices to assist effectively across multiple specialties including pediatric dentistry, prosthodontics, endodontics, and oral surgery.
Qualifications
- Proven experience as a Dental Assistant with specialization in orthodontics or general dentistry preferred.
- Proficiency with EMR systems such as TOPS for managing patient records efficiently.
- Knowledge of infection prevention management, aseptic technique, and sterilization procedures within a clinical setting.
- Familiarity with dental imaging techniques including X-ray and 3D scanner technology.
- Strong understanding of dental terminology, equipment operation, and clinical assisting techniques such as four-handed dentistry.
- Ability to perform chairside assisting with competence in handling dental instruments and materials during procedures.
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to educate patients about treatment plans and oral health practices.
- Knowledge of healthcare infection control standards and medical documentation requirements aligned with HIPAA guidelines.
- Experience working in pediatric dentistry or clinics serving diverse patient populations is advantageous but not mandatory.
