Job summary:
Assists in nursing care of surgical patients to include pre-operative, intra-operative, and post-operative care. Performs scrub duties and related procedures. Performs housekeeping duties as necessary and assists in the maintenance of all supplies. Maintains education and currency in surgical, operating room, and related aspects of nursing care.
Duties:
Assists surgeon as scrub:

Scrubs, gowns, and gloves in accordance with proper sterile technique.

Sets up table, instruments, and supplies according to type of surgical care.

Assists in preparation and draping of patient and operative area.
-
Assists and anticipates needs of surgeon.
-
Maintains aseptic technique at all times.

Assists, maintenance, and care of specimens.

Decontaminates all equipment, instruments, and supplies, and cleans room in accordance with center protocols.
Assists in housekeeping duties:

Cleans rooms, furniture, equipment, and suite.

Maintains traffic control through use of proper areas and corridors at all times.

Maintains use and cleanliness of autoclaves by following directions for use and cleaning.

Assists in maintenance of equipment and supplies by proper cleaning, care, utilization, and sterilization as directed.
Assists with supplies:

Maintains adequate supplies in the suite to insure availability during procedures.

Assists in ordering, storing, and stocking of supplies.

Assists in inventory of supplies and equipment to assure availability and maintain established levels.

Knows where all supplies are kept and is able to get or put away.
Maintains and increases standards of performance and education:

Attends all in service and staff meetings.

Assists in staff development and revision of procedures and related items.

Assists in the training of new employees within the scope of the job.
Performs additional duties as directed.
Job Requirements:
Graduate from high school with formal training and certification as an operating room technician or equivalent experience and demonstrated competence.
Physical Demands:

Frequent tasks: lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling, handling, reaching, and twisting of weights ranging from light to heavy at heights from the foot to above the head.

Mobility: walking up to 8-10 hours, standing 3-8 hours, stooping, bending, balancing, climbing, crouching and sitting.
