American Traveler is seeking an experienced OR RN for a travel assignment at a teaching facility in Maine, requiring strong ortho trauma and C-section circulating experience along with after-hours on-call availability.

Work setting is a small 89-bed teaching facility with 4 ORs
-
Case mix includes general surgery (open and laparoscopic bowel, gallbladder, appendix, hernias), urology, ENT, ophthalmology, GYN (including C-sections), and orthopedics
-
Ortho cases are heavy — ortho trauma experience is required; total joints experience is preferred

Average of 10–12 scheduled cases per day

Schedule is Monday–Friday, 6:30 AM – 3:00 PM
-
No floating required
-
On-call required: 1 shift per week on weekdays (after 3:00 PM until 6:30 AM) and 1 weekend every 4–6 weeks (Friday 3:00 PM through Monday 6:30 AM, emergent cases only)

Weekend and holiday coverage is on-call only for emergent cases

Call-back response time is 30 minutes

No sleep room is available on-site; stretchers are available in Day Surgery

EMR: Cerner (Alaris IV pumps and Pyxis medication dispensing also in use)

13-week assignment

Active ME or compact RN license required

Current BLS required; ACLS preferred

Minimum 2 years of RN experience required, with at least 1 year in OR

C-section circulating experience required
-
Ortho trauma experience required
-
Experience with after-hours and on-call cases including trauma, emergency C-sections, and emergency general surgery required

Teaching facility or hospital experience preferred

Travel nursing experience preferred; first-time travelers are generally not accepted

Candidates must have a permanent address 100+ miles south/southwest of Bangor, ME to be eligible for the travel pay rate (candidates residing 100+ miles north are reviewed on a case-by-case basis)

No previous permanent employment at any Northern Light Health hospital

Flu vaccination required for clearance to start (medical exemptions only, subject to facility approval)

2 professional references within the past year required, at least one from a supervisor, manager, director, or charge nurse (peer references not accepted)

Full SSN, Driver's License, and copies of all certifications required for consideration

All requested time off (RTO) must be disclosed upfront
-
Circulate across a broad range of surgical specialties including ortho trauma, GYN/OB, general surgery, ENT, urology, and ophthalmology

Supported by a supervisor, OR educator, and CRNAs who run all rooms
-
Orientation is approximately 2 weeks, dependent on skillset and comfort level; call buddy program begins within the first 2 weeks

Schedule cycles every 6 weeks; RTO requires manager approval

Surgical scrubs are provided by the facility
