Position Overview
HyperStrong International USA Corp is seeking a Senior Commissioning Manager to build and lead the Commissioning Department for the US Region. Reporting to the Director of Service, Americas, this department head role owns all commissioning activities end-to-end, including team development, program standards, deliverables, and customer-facing execution. The ideal candidate brings deep hands-on BESS commissioning experience and a proven track record of building and running a high-performing commissioning team.
Key Responsibilities:
- Build, lead, and scale the US Commissioning Department from the ground up, including hiring, onboarding, and developing commissioning engineers and coordinators.
- Coordinate with the Service Department to leverage service technicians on assigned projects; provide project-specific training and oversight to prepare them for transition into operations upon commissioning completion.
- Define the organizational structure, staffing model, and resource allocation strategy to support business growth and project demands across the US Region.
- Serve as the primary commissioning point of contact for internal stakeholders, executive leadership, and external customers; conduct performance evaluations and drive professional development across the team.
- Develop, implement, and continuously improve BESS commissioning programs, procedures, and standards; own all commissioning documentation frameworks including plans, test procedures, acceptance criteria, checklists, and handover packages.
- Establish quality assurance protocols and drive workflow standardization across the project portfolio; define commissioning KPIs and report regularly to leadership on departmental performance.
- Lead and oversee field commissioning of utility-scale BESS projects across the US, ensuring safe, on-schedule, and high-quality delivery.
- Direct integrated system testing including BMS, PCS, and EMS; manage commissioning schedules, resource deployment, and site coordination in alignment with project milestones.
- Serve as the senior technical authority on-site during critical commissioning milestones; oversee performance and capacity acceptance testing, validate results against contractual specifications, and manage customer sign-off.
- Collaborate with Project Management, Engineering, and Field Service to align commissioning activities with project timelines and deliverables.
- Partner with Product Engineering and R&D to feed field findings into product and process improvements; support proposal development with commissioning scope, schedule, and resource input.
- Identify and mitigate commissioning risks; maintain accurate project records, lessons-learned documentation, and metrics; ensure full compliance with safety regulations, HyperStrong standards, and applicable codes.
Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Power Engineering, or a related technical discipline; equivalent practical experience will be considered.
- 8+ years of experience commissioning utility-scale Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS), including full-cycle commissioning from pre-commissioning checks through customer acceptance.
- Demonstrated track record of building, leading, and managing a commissioning department or team within the energy storage or power systems industry.
- Proven experience developing commissioning programs, standards, and technical documentation from the ground up.
- Experience managing multi-project commissioning portfolios with concurrent field deployments across multiple US states.
- Deep technical knowledge of BESS systems, including:
- Battery Management Systems (BMS) – architecture, controls logic, alarm interpretation, and configuration
- Power Conversion Systems (PCS) – operation, grid codes, protection schemes, and fault diagnosis
- Energy Management Systems (EMS) – integration, communication protocols, and site-level control
- Grid interconnection requirements, utility protection coordination, and interconnection testing
Work Location
Based in the United States, work remotely from home.
Travel & Work Conditions:
- 20% travel to project sites across the US, with potential for occasional international travel
- Full-time, with flexibility to support commissioning activities outside standard business hours as project schedules require
Pay: $100,000.00 - $165,000.00 per year
