A Safety-Care Instructor trains staff in crisis prevention, behavioral de-escalation, and safe physical intervention techniques. This role plans and delivers evidence-based courses, evaluates staff competency, ensures regulatory compliance, and promotes a safe, trauma-informed environment for individuals with developmental or intellectual disabilities.
Job Duties
- Deliver scheduled Safety-Care core and advanced training programs for new hires and recurring annual refreshers.
- Teach behavioral de-escalation strategies, antecedent management, and safe physical disengagement or management techniques.
- Evaluate and test staff proficiency in both classroom theory and physical maneuvers.
- Update training manuals and visual aids to align with changing organizational policies or regulatory standards.
Job Requirements
- High school diploma required; Bachelor's degree in psychology, education, human services, or a related field preferred.
- Active, unexpired Safety-Care Trainer Certification (or ability to certify immediately upon hire).
- Minimum 1-3 years of experience working in human services, residential care, or behavioral health.
- Strong public speaking and interpersonal communication skills.
- Physical ability to safely demonstrate, participate in, and evaluate physical intervention and de-escalation maneuvers.
