Title: House Supervisor - Psychiatric Nursing (Part-Time)
Status: Regular, Part-Time (0.7 FTE / 28 hours per week)
Location: Belle Mead, New Jersey
Bonus: Sign-On Bonus Available; applicable shift differentials from $4.00 - $10.00
Position Overview
We are seeking an experienced Registered Nurse to provide hospital-wide clinical and operational leadership during assigned evening, overnight, weekend, and holiday coverage. This supervisory position supports psychiatric nursing operations, coordinates patient care and staffing, and serves as the primary leadership resource when department managers or senior administrators are not on-site.
The House Supervisor will help maintain safe patient flow, provide guidance to nursing and interdisciplinary teams, respond to urgent clinical situations, and address operational concerns throughout the facility.
Schedule
- 28 hours per week
- Weekday hours: 11:45 p.m.-7:45 a.m.
- Every-other-weekend hours: 7:45 a.m.-7:45 p.m.
- Every other weekend required
- Holiday coverage: 3 of 6 holidays
- On-call commitment required
- On-site position; telework is not available
Key Responsibilities
- Provide facility-wide nursing and operational oversight during assigned shifts.
- Conduct rounds throughout clinical areas to evaluate patient care, staffing needs, workflow, and operational concerns.
- Serve as a clinical and leadership resource for nurses and other healthcare professionals.
- Coordinate staffing, supplies, and equipment based on patient-care and operational priorities.
- Respond to codes and rapid-response situations and help coordinate the appropriate clinical resources.
- Assume initial Incident Command leadership during emergencies until designated emergency-management personnel arrive.
- Support safe and efficient admissions, transfers, discharges, and patient placement.
- Work closely with nursing leadership, physicians, case management, charge nurses, infection prevention, emergency services, and ancillary departments.
- Evaluate patient placement and admission status using established clinical and utilization criteria.
- Provide direction when clinical, staffing, patient-safety, or operational issues arise.
- Interpret applicable policies, procedures, and regulations for staff, physicians, patients, and visitors.
- Promote collaboration, critical thinking, and effective problem-solving across departments.
- Assist with orientation, education, mentoring, and development of nursing staff.
- Communicate significant events, complaints, or operational concerns to the appropriate leadership team and intervene promptly when necessary.
- Provide input regarding staff performance, competencies, and corrective action when appropriate.
- Participate in quality and performance-improvement initiatives.
- Help ensure compliance with applicable federal, state, accreditation, patient-safety, and healthcare regulatory requirements, including EMTALA requirements.
- Perform additional supervisory and clinical-support responsibilities as assigned.
Required Qualifications
- Associate Degree in Nursing or an accredited nursing diploma.
- Active New Jersey Registered Professional Nurse license.
- Minimum of four years of recent clinical nursing experience.
- Demonstrated nursing leadership capabilities.
- Strong understanding of the nursing process, standards of care, regulatory requirements, and current clinical practices.
- Ability to work independently and make appropriate decisions in a supervisory environment.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Proficiency with common workplace technology, including Microsoft Office and/or Google Workspace.
- Candidates hired under the applicable current education requirement must have a BSN in progress or be willing to complete a BSN within three years of hire. Qualifying advanced nursing pathways, such as an Associate-to-MSN program, may satisfy this requirement.
