Position Summary: The Registered Nurse works in collaboration with other Healthcare Professionals to determine and meet the needs of the patient. The Registered Nurse has the primary responsibility and accountability for providing safe, quality care to patients through the use of the nursing process as reflected in the Standards of Nursing Practice, the NYS Practice Act and the ANA Code of Ethics.
EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS / UNIT SPECIFIC REQUIREMENTS:
- Graduate from an accredited school of nursing with current licensure and registration as a Registered Nurse in the State of New York.
- Demonstrates knowledge and understanding of the New York State Practice Act and the American Nurses’ Association (ANA) Standards of Nursing Practice.
- BLS (CMH will provide if needed)
- ACLS (CMH will provide if needed)
- Current experience preferred - We are passionate to teach our new graduate nurses with our extensive Nurse Residency program!
Position Accountable To: Patient and Direct Clinical Supervisor
Responsible for: Assessing, planning, coordinating, delegating and evaluating patient care utilizing the nursing process.
Professional Growth and Competence:
- Attends all mandatory education in the established time frame.
- Completes annual health requirements.
- Pursues programs of continuing education; participates in educational conferences; and updates and maintains professional knowledge and skills to areas of responsibilities.
Interpersonal Relationships and Professional Conduct:
- Promotes effective interpersonal relationships and maintains professional conduct at all times.
- Fosters team spirit and positive morale through effective communication with all members of the healthcare team.
- Displays positive guest relations and positive attitude toward all hospital staff, visitors, patients, vendors, etc.
- The Nurse demonstrates the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to any age-related needs of the patients served on his or her assigned unit.
- The individual has knowledge of the principles of growth and development appropriate to the patient population served. He/ she/ they must be able to assess and interpret data about the patient’s status in order to identify each patient’s needs and provide the appropriate care, including age-related care, needed by the patient group (neonate, pediatric, adolescent or geriatric).
Requirements:
- Some lifting, reaching and stooping, standing, sitting and walking.
- Computer literacy and/or ability to learn e-mail, order entry at a minimum.
- Adheres to and follows all policies and procedures of Columbia Memorial Hospital related to the department and institution.
- Wide variety of activities, stress and a high degree of concentration.
Confidentiality:
- Complies with all HIPAA regulations
- Responsible for maintaining confidentiality of patient information
- Responsible for maintaining confidentiality of staff information
- Signs a confidentiality statement and adheres to confidentiality policy of Columbia Memorial Hospital
Safety:
- Adheres to standard safety practices and job, department, and Columbia Memorial Hospital policies and procedures related to safety.
- Participates in training and development activities in accordance with Columbia Memorial Hospital policies and practices.
- Adheres to infection control and safety practices.
- Identifies safety hazards and takes appropriate actions to resolve/report
