Job Summary
We are seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented Orthodontic Dental Assistant to join our dental practice. The ideal candidate will provide exceptional chairside assistance, support orthodontic procedures, and ensure patient comfort and safety. This role offers an opportunity to work in a fast-paced environment specializing in orthodontics and general dentistry, utilizing advanced dental technology and maintaining high standards of infection control and patient care.
Duties
- Assist orthodontists during various procedures including bracket placement, adjustments, iTero scans, and appliance fittings.
- Prepare treatment rooms and sterilize instruments following aseptic techniques
- Take photos and X-rays, ensuring proper patient positioning and safety protocols
- Manage patient records using EMR systems such as Tops, ensuring accuracy and confidentiality in compliance with HIPAA regulations
- Educate patients on orthodontic care, appliance maintenance, and oral hygiene practices
- Monitor vital signs and assist with medical imaging as needed for comprehensive patient care
- Support the dental team with administrative tasks such as scheduling appointments and managing medical documentation
- Maintain infection control standards and ensure the clinic adheres to all safety protocols
- Collaborate with the dental team in providing pediatric dentistry services when required
- Assist with general dentistry procedures including endodontics, prosthodontics, and other restorative treatments using appropriate dental terminology
Experience
- Prior experience working in a dental clinic environment is preferred, especially in orthodontics or pediatric dentistry
- Proficiency with dental software systems
- Knowledge of medical terminology, dental terminology, and anatomy relevant to dental assisting roles
- Experience with chairside assisting, aseptic technique, and infection control practices is essential
- Familiarity with X-ray procedures (pano & ceph), medical imaging technologies including 3D scanners, and vital signs monitoring is advantageous
- Background in dental assisting or related certifications demonstrating competence in dental procedures and patient care is required
