Position: Billing Specialist
Department: Finance / Administrative
Job Type: Full-time (Monday–Friday 8:00 a.m.–4:00 p.m.)
Description: This position consists of 3 main parts: medical billing, dental sealant grant coordinator, and accounts payable.
Medical billing responsibilites include:
· Medical billing for physician, immunization, and reproductive health clinics
· Communication with insurance companies for various purposes, including but not limited to: the resolution of unpaid claims, to obtain prior authorization, credentialing, technical questions
· Medical coding is preferred, but not required
· Participate in administrative reviews of clinics and respond to inquiries as needed
Dental sealant grant coordinator duties include:
· Maintain fiscal records and prepare monthly/quarterly/annual reports for the dental sealant program
· Write the annual grant application for the dental sealant program
· Coordinate and revise all personnel forms/records
· Check all dental forms distributed to school personnel, parents, and participants for appropriateness
· Review project budget on a monthly basis
· Order all supplies, including purchase orders, approvals, and bill payment
· Verify eligibility and billing of medicaid for all students that receive sealants
· Maintain public relations with school superintendants, principals, and school nurses
Accounts payable duties include:
· Tracking due dates for routine bills
· Monitoring the payment status of bills
· Retrieving invoices as necessary
· Reconciling account balances to payments shown in the accounting software
· Verifying that good/services spcified on the invoice have been provided to the health department.
· Submitting invoices for payment into the accounting software
· Communicate with vendors as needed
Qualifications and Requirements
· Bachelor’s degree in health or business administration or minimum of 2 years of experience in medical billing related field
· Knowledge of insurance billing processes is highly desired
· Ability to handle sensitive and confidential information with professionalism
· Proficient in Microsoft Word and Microsoft Excel for data management
· Familiar with billing software and electronic health records
· Strong written and verbal communication skills
· Strong organization skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities
· Ability to maintain partnerships with diverse stakeholders
· Maintain valid driver’s license
Physical Demands
· Requires being able to be in a sitting or standing position for extended periods of time
· Occasional lifting of supplies and equipment not to exceed 30 pounds
· All duties are typically performed at the Lawrence County Health Department in an office setting
