Position Summary
The Memory Care Director is responsible for the overall leadership, management, and daily operations of our Memory Care neighborhood.
This position oversees resident care, life enrichment programming, dementia care, team leadership, regulatory compliance, family communication, staff development, quality assurance, and clinical collaboration while ensuring every resident receives compassionate, individualized, person-centered care.
This role works closely with the Executive Director, Wellness Director, physicians, hospice providers, rehabilitation professionals, pharmacies, home health agencies, and families to provide exceptional care and outstanding resident experiences.
What You'll DoLead and Inspire Your Team
- Recruit, interview, hire, train, mentor, and retain exceptional caregivers.
- Foster a culture of compassion, accountability, teamwork, and excellence.
- Create staff schedules that support quality resident care.
- Conduct coaching sessions and performance evaluations.
- Provide ongoing education, mentorship, and leadership development.
- Recognize employee achievements and encourage professional growth.
- Lead department meetings and promote continuous improvement.
Deliver Exceptional Dementia Care
Oversee care for residents living with:
- Alzheimer's disease
- Vascular dementia
- Lewy body dementia
- Frontotemporal dementia
- Parkinson's disease dementia
- Mild cognitive impairment
- Other memory-related conditions
Ensure every resident receives individualized, person-centered care focused on maximizing independence, dignity, comfort, and quality of life.
Create an Outstanding Memory Care Program
Develop and oversee innovative programming that includes:
- Cognitive stimulation
- Memory enhancement activities
- Music therapy
- Art therapy
- Sensory engagement
- Exercise and movement programs
- Gardening
- Life skills activities
- Reminiscence therapy
- Purposeful daily engagement
- Spiritual wellness
- Social programming
- Individualized therapeutic activities
Programs should reflect each resident's interests, preferences, strengths, and abilities while promoting meaningful engagement and emotional well-being.
Oversee Resident Care
Ensure excellence in:
- Activities of Daily Living (ADLs)
- Bathing
- Dressing
- Grooming
- Dining assistance
- Feeding assistance
- Continence care
- Transfers
- Mobility assistance
- Medication supervision in accordance with California regulations
- Fall prevention
- Infection prevention
- Behavioral interventions
- Documentation
- Care planning
- Resident assessments
Recognize changes in resident condition and communicate appropriately with the Wellness Director and interdisciplinary team.
Partner with Families
Build trusted relationships by:
- Providing education regarding Alzheimer's disease and dementia
- Communicating resident progress and changes
- Conducting family meetings
- Supporting new resident transitions
- Offering guidance and resources
- Helping families navigate every stage of the dementia journey
Support Clinical Excellence
Collaborate with:
- Executive Director
- Wellness Director

Maintain exceptional communication while ensuring residents receive coordinated, comprehensive care.
Admissions and Resident Transitions
- Participate in pre-admission assessments.
- Evaluate prospective Memory Care residents.
- Assist with move-in planning and resident transitions.
- Conduct community tours for prospective families.
- Develop and update individualized service plans.
- Support occupancy goals through exceptional resident and family experiences.
Maintain Regulatory Excellence
Ensure compliance with:
- California RCFE regulations
- California Department of Social Services requirements
- Resident Rights
- HIPAA
- OSHA
- Infection prevention standards
- Medication management policies
- Oxford Health Group policies and procedures
- Documentation requirements
- Emergency preparedness procedures
QualificationsRequired
- High school diploma or GED
- Minimum two years of supervisory or management experience
- Experience in Assisted Living, Memory Care, Skilled Nursing, Long-Term Care, or Senior Living
- Experience working with residents living with Alzheimer's disease and dementia
- Current First Aid Certification
- Current CPR Certification
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Strong leadership and organizational skills
- Valid driver's license
- Reliable transportation
- Current automobile insurance
Preferred
- College coursework in Nursing, Healthcare Administration, Gerontology, Recreation Therapy, Social Work, or a related field
- RCFE experience
- Dementia care certification
- Memory Care leadership experience
- Experience developing dementia programming
- Experience leading multidisciplinary teams

Physical Requirements
This position requires the ability to:
- Walk throughout the community for extended periods.
- Frequently stand, bend, kneel, stoop, and reach.
- Lift up to 20 pounds.
- Push up to 40 pounds.
- Assist residents during emergencies.
- Respond quickly to resident needs.
- Work evenings, weekends, holidays, and overtime as needed.

California RCFE Requirements
Applicants must meet all California Residential Care Facility for the Elderly (RCFE) employment requirements, including:
- Criminal background clearance (LIC 508)
- Health screening and TB clearance
