Job Overview
We are seeking a reliable and dedicated Warehouse/Delivery lead to join our team. The Warehouse Lead is responsible for the day-to-day operation of the Royal Furniture warehouse at the Oxford, Alabama store, ensuring the safe, accurate, and efficient receiving, staging, storing, and loading of furniture inventory. This working lead role directs warehouse associates and delivery helpers, maintains a clean and organized facility, protects merchandise from damage, and supports on-time deliveries and customer pickups. The Warehouse Lead sets the tone for productivity, safety, and customer service in the back of the house. You will be responsible for transporting goods to various locations while ensuring timely and safe delivery. This role requires excellent customer service skills, attention to detail, and the ability to handle heavy lifting. You will play a crucial role in maintaining our reputation for exceptional service.
Duties
- Lead daily warehouse operations, including receiving, put-away, staging, loading, and customer pickups.
- Assign and direct the work of warehouse associates and delivery helpers; ensure tasks are completed accurately and on time.
- Verify incoming shipments against packing lists and purchase orders; report shortages, overages, and damages promptly.
- Inspect merchandise for damage or defects during receiving, staging, and loading; document and tag issues per company policy.
- Pull, stage, and prepare merchandise for delivery routes and customer pickups; confirm ticket accuracy before release.
- Load and unload delivery trucks safely using proper lifting techniques, dollies, straps, blankets, and pads to prevent damage.
- Maintain accurate inventory locations and bin assignments; assist with cycle counts and annual physical inventory.
- Keep the warehouse, dock, and yard clean, organized, and free of hazards at all times.
- Communicate professionally with store management, sales staff, delivery drivers, and customers regarding merchandise status.
- Train new warehouse and delivery team members on procedures, safety, and quality standards.
- Open and/or close the warehouse; secure the building, doors, and merchandise at end of day.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Store Manager or Operations Manager.
- Operate delivery vehicles to transport goods to designated locations.
- Greet customers professionally and ensure satisfaction with the delivery process.
- Follow assigned routes efficiently while adhering to traffic laws and safety regulations.
- Perform routine vehicle inspections and maintenance checks to ensure safety and reliability.
- Provide excellent customer service by communicating effectively with clients during deliveries.
- Handle heavy lifting of packages and materials, ensuring proper lifting techniques are used.
- Cleans, checks, and tests merchandise before loading.
- Loads and unloads merchandise, also unboxes, set ups, displays, cleans, touches up, repairs,
- Delivers and returns merchandise with proper use of shipping blankets and tie-downs to secure the merchandise.
- Performs minor service calls and repairs
- Maintain accurate delivery records and documentation as required.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Store Manager or Regional Manager.
Experience
- Previous experience as a van driver or courier is preferred.
- Familiarity with route driving and navigation skills is essential.
- Experience in a warehouse setting is advantageous.
- Strong customer service skills are necessary to interact positively with clients.
- Experience with manual handling techniques for heavy lifting is beneficial.
- Strong leadership presence with the ability to motivate and hold a small team accountable.
- Highly organized with strong attention to detail and accuracy.
- Dependable, punctual, and able to work with minimal supervision.
- Effective verbal communication with team members, management, and customers.
- Problem solver who can prioritize competing demands in a fast-paced retail environment.
- Commitment to safety and to protecting merchandise from damage.
Additional Requirements
- Clean, valid driver’s license – ability to be DOT certified if required.
- High school education or GED.
- Ability to read tags, instructions, maps, documents.
- Ability to lift up to 75 lbs., 200 lbs. with the aid of a dolly or the assistance of another person without sustaining personal injury or damaging the merchandise.
