Position Summary
The Freight and Logistics Coordinator is responsible for coordinating the efficient, timely, accurate, and cost-effective movement of inbound and outbound freight across The Griff Network. This position manages domestic and international shipments, carrier scheduling, freight documentation, shipment tracking, delivery coordination, freight cost review, and communication with carriers, customers, vendors, and internal departments.
The Freight and Logistics Coordinator supports manufacturing, warehouse, customer service, sales, planning, purchasing, and operations by ensuring raw materials, finished goods, and interfacility transfers are scheduled and delivered according to production requirements and customer expectations.
The ideal candidate will have hands-on experience coordinating Small Package, Less-Than-Truckload, Truckload, expedited, and international shipments within a manufacturing, distribution, or warehouse environment. This person should be highly organized, detail-focused, comfortable working with carriers and freight brokers, and able to manage multiple time-sensitive shipments while resolving transportation issues quickly and professionally.
Key Responsibilities:
- Coordinate all inbound and outbound freight, including Small Package, Less-Than-Truckload, Truckload, expedited, intermodal, and international ocean and air shipments.
- Schedule carrier pickups, deliveries, and interfacility transfers based on production schedules, material availability, warehouse capacity, customer requirements, and requested delivery dates.
- Obtain and compare freight quotes and coordinate with carriers, brokers, freight forwarders, customs brokers, vendors, and customers to support timely and cost-effective transportation.
- Prepare, review, and maintain accurate shipping documentation, including packing slips, Bills of Lading, shipping logs, commercial invoices, certificates of origin, customs documentation, and other import or export records.
- Verify shipment details, including addresses, quantities, weights, dimensions, freight classifications, pallet counts, accessorial needs, packaging requirements, and special handling instructions.
- Track shipments and communicate updates, delays, shortages, holds, damages, missed appointments, and delivery concerns to customer service, sales, production, planning, purchasing, quality, warehouse, and operations.
- Ensure shipments are properly packaged, labeled, staged, documented, and prepared for transport, including coordinating or assisting with pallets, custom skids, crates, wrapping, banding, and protective packaging.
- Maintain accurate freight records and update shipment information within ERP, WMS, carrier portals, tracking systems, spreadsheets, and other logistics tools.
- Review freight invoices, rate confirmations, accessorial charges, claims, carrier performance, and billing discrepancies while identifying opportunities to reduce freight costs and improve service.
- Support shipping, receiving, inventory counts, material staging, domestic and international transportation compliance, warehouse safety, and other operational needs as assigned.
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent required. Associate’s or bachelor’s degree in supply chain, logistics, transportation, operations, business, or a related field preferred.
- Three to five years of freight, shipping, receiving, transportation, or logistics coordination experience in a manufacturing, distribution, or warehouse environment preferred.
- Experience coordinating Small Package, Less-Than-Truckload, Truckload, expedited, and international ocean or air shipments.
- Knowledge of inbound and outbound freight, carrier scheduling, shipment tracking, freight classifications, accessorial services, and delivery coordination.
- Experience preparing and reviewing Bills of Lading, packing slips, commercial invoices, shipping logs, customs documentation, and other import or export records.
- Experience working with carriers, freight brokers, freight forwarders, customs brokers, vendors, customers, and internal operational teams.
- Proficiency with ERP, WMS, TMS, carrier portals, inventory systems, Microsoft Outlook, Word, and Excel. Epicor experience preferred.
- Strong organizational, communication, problem-solving, and time-management skills with the ability to manage multiple shipments, deadlines, and changing priorities.
- Experience with pallets, skids, crates, protective packaging, wrapping, banding, and shipment preparation preferred. Experience with roll goods, paper, film, foil, packaging, or converting materials is a plus.
- Knowledge of transportation safety, hazardous material requirements, customs procedures, and domestic and international shipping regulations preferred. Forklift certification and a valid driver’s license are also preferred.

Physical Requirements
This position requires the ability to sit, stand, walk, bend, reach, and move safely throughout warehouse, shipping, receiving, loading dock, and production areas. The employee may assist with shipment preparation, material staging, inventory counts, pallet wrapping, banding, and loading activities.
The employee must be able to regularly lift up to 50 pounds and push, pull, or move materials or equipment weighing up to 100 pounds, with or without assistance. The employee must also follow all safety requirements and wear required personal protective equipment.
