Role Description
The Board Member (Volunteer) role is a hybrid position based in Sarasota, FL, with some responsibilities that can be performed from home. Board Members contribute to governance, strategic planning, and oversight of organizational activities, including food distribution initiatives, fundraising campaigns, and community outreach. Day-to-day tasks may include attending board and committee meetings, reviewing reports and budgets, providing input on policies and programs, and supporting decision-making that aligns with the organization’s mission. Board Members may also help cultivate partnerships, represent the organization at local events, and engage with donors, volunteers, and community leaders.
This is an unpaid volunteer role that requires a passion to serve the needy, a commitment to ethical governance, a dedication to the mission of reducing hunger and an ability to collaborate.
Qualifications
- Experience in nonprofit governance, strategic planning, or board service, with the ability to contribute to mission-focused decision-making.
- Skills in community engagement, relationship-building, or networking, particularly with local organizations, businesses, and civic leaders.
- Background and/or interest in fundraising, donor relations, or resource development to support program sustainability.
- Basic financial literacy and comfort reviewing budgets, reports, and organizational performance metrics.
- Strong communication skills, including the ability to listen, collaborate, and represent the organization in a professional manner.
- Commitment to equity, inclusion, and respect for diverse communities affected by food insecurity.
- Ability to attend meetings in Sarasota, FL and participate in virtual discussions, with reliable access to email and online collaboration tools.
- Prior experience in social services, public administration, community organizing, or related fields is beneficial but not required.
