Position Summary
Reporting to the Director of Family Care, this position will be focused on establishing relationships with local mother and child programs and the church community for partnering and placement of children with voluntary caregivers during times of need. The Community Caseworker is also responsible for providing ongoing support and services for families in the community as well as volunteer caregiver families.
General duties
- Develop community and church relationships to increase awareness of the Palmer Home Family Care ministry.
- Provide support and aid to families in the community to prevent separation and promote safety and well-being in the home.
- Maintain certification as a badged volunteer through the Tennessee Department of Corrections. Attend monthly support groups within the prison to build relationships with mothers who are incarcerated. Serve at large group events at Debra K. Johnson Rehabilitation Center (DJRC).
- Provide assistance in the assessment and coordination of placement of children and families referred from the community by other agencies and local county jails.
- Maintain all related documentation of contact with families, community resources, and outside agencies, including all documentation required for state licensure compliance.
- Share responsibilities in maintaining the Nashville office, including being present in the Nashville office one day a week.
- Coordinate a monthly group event and plan special events for mothers living in the Nashville area. These gatherings are for encouragement. support, and relationship building. Biblical truths and healthy parenting training should be included in the monthly group.
- Contribute to the development of ongoing training and support for caregivers as well as regular interest meetings, support groups, and caregiver family events.
- Participate in ongoing employee training as required.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's or master's degree in behavioral sciences such as psychology, sociology, or social work.
- Minimum of one year experience in the provision of case management.
- Willingness to work alongside local social services, agencies, and programs with which Palmer Home must frequently interact to provide additional services to children and families.
- Strong interpersonal skills
- Strong computer skills
- Must have exceptional skills in program administration, communications, counseling, and human relations.
- Willing to travel as required or needed to successfully accomplish requirements of this position
- Personal calling and core passion to serve in Christian ministry helping families
- Must demonstrate a vibrant and growing evangelical faith commitment centered upon a personal relationship with Jesus Christ.
- Must agree with the Palmer Home for Children Statement of Christian Beliefs and demonstrate a strong commitment to Christ consistent with the mission of Palmer Home status as a non-profit religious organization.
