TITLE: Part-time Adult Basic Education Instructor(s) and/or ESL Instructor(s)

DESCRIPTION: The Adult Basic Education/ESL Instructor will prepare lessons and implement instruction to adult students to increase their mathematics, reading, writing, social studies and science knowledge. Goals of this position are to integrate all adult education classes with College and Career Readiness Standards, preparing students for the HSE, the workforce and for furthering education.
*These are grant-funded positions.
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Assists those students who do not have a High School Diploma in building reading, writing, social studies and science skills, to achieve a passing score on the HSE Exam.
- Develops the basic skills component of a curriculum to assist students in developing reading, writing, social studies and science skills, study skills and career readiness skills to meet the needs of adult learners.
- Participates in regular meetings and communications with administration in order to collaborate, align instruction, monitor students' progress and identify issues they may have while attending classes.
- Evaluates and revises the basic skills component of the curriculum to meet the needs of the students.
- Evaluates students' basic skills progress, regularly.
- Maintains current records on all students, including but not limited to, accurate attendance records and reports absences to the coordinator.
- Promotes the mission of the program in a positive manner with all staff, participants and partners, with a consistent exchange of information in a transparent and collaborative environment.
REQUIREMENTS:
- Bachelor's Degree required. Master's Degree preferred.
- New Jersey teaching certification preferred.
- Knowledge of subject area and effective teaching methods.
- Knowledge of adult basic skills standardized assessment instruments.
- Ability to work a flexible schedule with varied hours to meet programmatic needs.
- Possess the ability to work well and communicate effectively with prospective and current students, staff, faculty, administration, colleagues and community partners.
REPORTS TO: The Director of Adult & Post-Secondary Education
HOURS: Flexible hours may include daytime options: Monday - Friday 8:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m., Saturday 9:00 a.m. - 2:00 p.m. and/or evening options: Monday - Thursday 4:00 p.m. - 9:00 p.m.
RATE: Hourly rate up to $38.00
