Education – High School diploma or GED.
Experience – No experience necessary, prefer 1year experience working with psychiatric patients.
Licenses & Certification – Certified Nurse Aide preferred. Must become CPI or similar certified within 60 days of employment. Current BLS certification or recertification within 60 days of hire.
Knowledge & Skills –
Under general supervision, performs advanced nonprofessional nursing work involving a variety of bedside nursing duties in a hospital and skilled nursing setting.
Work is performed in an inpatient and ambulatory health care setting. There is common exposure to infectious communicable disease, potentially hazardous chemicals, and biohazardous materials. Incumbent must be aware of all risks involved and be willing to take precautions as required and requested. Special attire may be required as protection against infection and radiation.
Work requires long periods of standing and walking in the hospital. Working with patients requires recurring bending, lifting, stooping, stretching and positioning patients. Ability to lift in excess of 50 pounds is needed. Incumbent must be able to cope with constant changes in a stress-laden environment.
Satisfactory job performance will be determined by successful execution of the following:
- Alert nurses of any changes in patient’s condition.
- Performs simple tests/collects specimen on patients such as spirometer, EKG, and urinalysis.
- Obtains and records vital signs including body temperature, height, weight, and blood pressure. Maintains patient confidentiality. Answers patient call lights and assists patients with needs.
- Gives satisfactory personal care to patients which includes bathing, dressing, hygiene activities in a timely manner.
- Chaperones examinations and patients.
- Maintains 15-minute checks sheets for patient rounding documentation.
- Responsible for accurate logging of patient's personal belongings and valuables on admission and discharge.
- Responsible for stocking patient dining room.
- Responsible for assisting patients to groups and meals.
- Ability to provide simple groups such as Current Events.
- Ability to remain calm during emergency behavioral situations.
- Assists in training and orienting new aides to hospital and procedures.
- As needed, performs various duties as needed to successfully fulfill the function of the position.
