Middle School DirectorAbout the Opportunity
An established independent school in Northwest Washington is seeking an experienced and collaborative educational leader to serve as Middle School Director for grades 5-8.
This position provides an opportunity to lead a vibrant middle school program, support faculty growth, foster student success, and contribute to the long-term vision of a preschool through eighth-grade school community.

Position Summary
The Middle School Director is responsible for the overall leadership, administration, and management of the middle school program. The Director works closely with faculty, students, families, and school leadership to ensure a safe, engaging, and academically rigorous learning environment.
The Director serves as a member of the administrative leadership team and helps support school-wide initiatives and operations.
Key Responsibilities Leadership & Operations
- Oversee daily operations of the middle school program.
- Supervise, support, and evaluate middle school faculty and staff.
- Coordinate student scheduling, placement, and elective offerings.
- Assist with budget planning and resource management.
- Maintain a safe, effective, and positive learning environment.
- Support school-wide operations and leadership initiatives.
- Promote high-quality instruction and academic excellence.
- Support curriculum development and continuous improvement efforts.
- Monitor student achievement and assessment outcomes.
- Coach faculty on instructional best practices and effective use of educational technology.
- Ensure programs align with educational standards and school goals.
- Foster a positive culture of responsibility, engagement, and respect.
- Oversee student conduct and discipline processes.
- Support extracurricular activities, field experiences, and special programs.
- Partner with families and support service providers to meet student needs.
- Assist in recruiting, hiring, onboarding, and retaining exceptional educators.
- Conduct performance evaluations and provide coaching and feedback.
- Facilitate professional development opportunities.
- Promote collaboration, innovation, and professional growth.
- Serve as a primary point of contact for middle school families.
- Communicate regularly regarding student progress, school initiatives, and important updates.
QualificationsRequired
- Master's degree in Education, Educational Leadership, Educational Administration, or a related field.
- Minimum of five (5) years of successful teaching experience.
- Minimum of three (3) years of educational leadership, supervisory, or administrative experience.
- Demonstrated ability to lead faculty, support student success, and foster positive relationships with families and the school community.
- Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills.
Preferred
- Washington State Residency or Professional Principal Certificate.
- Completion of a state-approved educational leadership or principal preparation program.
- Independent school leadership experience.
- Experience with faculty supervision, performance evaluation, curriculum oversight, and strategic planning.
Candidates with comparable independent school leadership experience and the ability to obtain Washington administrative certification are encouraged to apply.
