Construction Accounting Specialist

The Opportunity
Morelock Builders is seeking an experienced Construction Accounting Specialist to join our team in Springfield, Missouri.
This is a hands-on accounting position with responsibility for the day-to-day financial activity associated with our construction and real estate operations. The right person will be highly organized, comfortable working independently, and exceptionally proficient with QuickBooks Online.
You'll work closely with company leadership and project staff while managing everything from accounts payable and construction draws to loan tracking and job-cost information.
We're looking for someone who takes ownership of their work, enjoys solving problems, and takes pride in keeping financial information accurate and organized.
Responsibilities
- Manage accounts payable and bill payment
- Prepare and track construction loan draws
- Maintain construction and development loan records
- Reconcile bank, credit card, and loan accounts
- Maintain accurate job-cost information
- Code invoices and expenses to appropriate projects and cost categories
- Track project costs against budgets
- Maintain vendor records and accounting documentation
- Assist with project setup and accounting for new construction projects
- Coordinate accounting information with project managers and company leadership
- Assist with month-end and year-end accounting
- Coordinate with outside CPA and lenders as needed
- Prepare routine financial and project reports
- Maintain accurate and organized electronic accounting records
- Assist with other accounting functions as needed
What We're Looking For
Required
- Significant professional bookkeeping or accounting experience
- Strong proficiency with QuickBooks Online
- Experience with accounts payable, account reconciliation, and general bookkeeping/accounting
- Strong Excel skills
- Exceptional attention to detail
- Ability to organize and prioritize multiple responsibilities
- Ability to work independently and follow through on deadlines
- Professional written and verbal communication skills
Preferred, but not required
- Construction accounting experience
- Construction loan draw experience
- Job-cost accounting experience
- Real estate or property accounting experience
- Procore experience
- AppFolio experience
We don't expect the right candidate to know every system we use. Strong accounting fundamentals, QuickBooks Online proficiency, attention to detail, and the ability to learn are more important.
