AlphaRidge is a New York based managed IT and cybersecurity firm serving organizations in healthcare, financial services, and the public sector. About the Role
This is the second in command of our technology organization. You will report to the Sr. Director of Technology and act as their operational counterpart, carrying real authority over how infrastructure and network work gets delivered rather than simply coordinating it.
We are looking for someone who has done the work inside a managed service provider and understands what that model demands: many environments, competing priorities, thin margins on delivery time, and clients who feel every mistake. You need genuine depth across both systems and network. Someone who is strong on servers and cloud but treats the network as somebody else's problem is not the right fit for this seat, and neither is the reverse.
Our client base is majority Microsoft, with Google Workspace and mixed environments in the remainder, so your standards and escalation depth need to hold across platforms even though Microsoft is where the volume is.
The role splits roughly evenly three ways: final technical escalation, leading the engineering group day to day, and technical governance of project delivery. A dedicated Technical Project Manager owns project coordination, scheduling, and client communication cadence; you own whether the engineering underneath those projects is right. You will remain hands on. This is not a seat where you stop touching production.
What You'll Do
Technical Authority
- Act as the final internal escalation point for complex infrastructure, cloud, and network issues before they reach executive leadership.
- Own technical standards across Windows Server, Microsoft 365 and Azure, Google Workspace, virtualization, perimeter security, routing and switching, and backup and disaster recovery.
- Approve production change requests and enforce change control discipline.
- Lead root cause analysis on major incidents and make sure the corrective action actually ships.
Team Leadership
- Directly manage Systems Administrators and Network Engineers across multiple regions, including one to ones, coaching, and skills development.
- Own workload allocation and scheduling across escalations, projects, and planned maintenance.
- Build the technical skills matrix and drive the certification roadmap for the engineering group.
- Participate in technical hiring and own onboarding for new engineers.
- Partner with service delivery and operations leadership on ticket flow and capacity planning.
Delivery Governance
- Own the technical integrity of infrastructure and migration projects: design decisions, effort estimates, and execution quality.
- Partner with the Technical Project Manager, who owns project coordination, milestone tracking, and client communication cadence, so that engineering accountability and delivery accountability reinforce each other rather than blur.
- Review scopes of work before signature and flag technical risk, effort assumptions, and gaps that would cause overrun.
- Act as senior technical voice in client conversations, including quarterly reviews and remediation planning.
- Partner with the SOC and NOC on alerting thresholds, monitoring coverage, and escalation runbooks.
- Own the health of our internal tool stack and drive automation that returns hours to the team.
What Success Looks Like
- Escalations resolve at root cause and stop recurring, and the volume reaching executive leadership drops.
- Effort estimates hold, and projects have no engineering caused scope gaps against the signed statement of work.
- Engineers grow. Certifications are earned, escalation depth improves, and the team retains its people.
- Change control is followed without exception, and production change is executed without unplanned client impact.
- Environment standards are documented, consistently applied across platforms, and hold up under client audit.
- Delivery holds steady independent of any single individual's availability.
- Automation and tooling improvements are measurable in hours returned, not just implemented.
Required Qualifications
- Eight or more years in infrastructure and network engineering, with at least five of those at a managed service provider.
- Two or more years leading engineers, whether as a direct people manager or as a technical lead with accountability for delivery.
- Genuine depth in both domains. Systems: Windows Server, Active Directory, Microsoft 365, Azure, and virtualization. Network: routing and switching, VLANs, VPN, and enterprise firewall administration.
- Working familiarity with Google Workspace environments, or the demonstrated ability to set and enforce standards on a platform outside your primary depth.
- Demonstrated ownership of multi phase migration or infrastructure projects as the accountable technical lead.
- Working command of backup and disaster recovery design, and the ability to prove a restore rather than assume one.
- Fluency with PSA and RMM tooling, and an understanding of why documentation and time entry discipline determine whether an MSP is profitable.
- The judgment to know which decisions are yours, which belong to executive leadership, and which belong to the client.
- Authorized to work in the United States without sponsorship.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience delivering into regulated industries under HIPAA, NYDFS Part 500, or SOC 2, including supporting client audit and evidence requests.
- Certifications across both domains, for example AZ-104 or AZ-305 paired with a network or security credential.
- Experience managing a distributed team across multiple time zones.
- Exposure to SOC operations and security incident response.
- Vendor and procurement experience, including quoting and hardware lifecycle planning.
- Experience working within the remote monitoring, PSA, and endpoint security tooling typical of a managed service environment.
Pay: $115,000.00 - $160,000.00 per year
