Hourly base pay rate: $30.30; On-Call: $2.00; Bilingual: $0.50
Location: YWCA Golden Gate Silicon Valley North office in Palo Alto; 451 Lytton Ave, Palo Alto.
Program/Department: Community Support North Program/Support Services (pending name to Healing & Justice Department)
Reporting to the Associate Director of Community Support Services, the Bilingual Community Support Advocate (North):
- Provides direct advocacy, accompaniment, counseling, safety planning, case management, support groups, education, and community referrals to adults and children impacted by sexual assault, domestic violence, and human trafficking both in person and on the phone using a strength-based, client-centered, trauma-informed approach.
- Effectively advocate for survivors, accompany, and liaise with outside agencies and community organizations, including law enforcement, SART nurses, the District Attorney’s office, social services, correctional facilities, University/College Staff, Title IX, etc.
- Effectively works with and responds to North County jurisdictions that can include but are not limited to Los Altos, Los Altos Hills, Moffett Field, Mountain View, Palo Alto, Stanford, Sunnyvale, Milpitas, Cupertino, Saratoga, and San Jose.
- Manage a caseload of survivors of domestic violence &/or sexual assault; assess advocacy service needs; arrange, coordinate, and monitor the delivery of individualized services
- Maintain an on-site presence a minimum of two days per week to provide office coverage, including but not limited to responding to walk-in clients, answering and triaging phone calls, providing crisis intervention, and supporting general office and client service operations as needed.
- Conduct a minimum of two visits a month to the Milpitas Police Department to review police reports, identify survivors, and complete timely, trauma-informed follow-ups to provide crisis intervention, safety planning, advocacy, referrals, and ongoing support services as appropriate.
- Maintain accurate and confidential records (hard copy and soft copy) of client services (service plans and goals) and demographics and update records in ETO (Efforts to Outcomes database) on a timely basis.
- Assists in facilitating and presenting at department trainings, 75hr- training, and community presentations as needed
- Responds to on-call duties that require a 24-hour shift. This includes evenings and overnights, some weekends, and holidays as part of an on-call rotation.
We are seeking a compassionate, organized, and reliable individual with a high level of self-awareness and emotional intelligence to provide case management, advocacy, and emotional support for survivors of violence. Essential to this role is a demonstrated ability to work with culturally and economically diverse individuals and families and the ability to work with those impacted by trauma; excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to work independently and remotely; a demonstrated ability to function effectively in a fast-paced environment and to respond appropriately to unexpected situations. You must have an understanding of feminism and a strong commitment to social justice. Additionally, an ideal candidate will possess knowledge of and sensitivity to domestic violence and sexual assault issues, trauma, gender equity, and client-centered service provision.
Candidates must have a Bachelor’s Degree in a social services field or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Key to success is the ability to be present in a changing work environment; the ability to work independently and as a member of a diverse team with flexibility, initiative, and a sense of humor; and the ability to prioritize effectively and model healthy boundaries with empathy and compassion. Candidates should be competent in using Microsoft Office (Word, Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint) and have experience in confidential data management and record-keeping.
The ideal candidate is a warm, self-starter deeply committed to providing services from a strengths-based, social justice, and anti-oppression framework. Prior advocacy-based counseling and case management experience is a plus. Bilingual, bi-cultural, and bi-literate skills are required (in Spanish).
Work hours are primarily Monday-Friday, and hours are typically 9 am – 5:30 pm with scheduling flexibility determined by the supervisor. Delivery of service may include some evenings, weekends, and overtime to accomplish tasks at hand. Additionally, on-call duties are required during some evenings, overnights, and holidays on a rotating schedule. Candidate must be within a drivable distance of the North Palo Alto Office, as that will be their primary location. This is an on-site job with the flexibility to work remotely as determined by the supervisor. In-person within the required service area response time based on job assignment. Work includes lifting up to 30 pounds. Frequent local travel to Valley Medical Center, Stanford Hospital, Juvenile Hall, and to law enforcement agencies in Santa Clara County. Susceptible to compassion fatigue and/or vicarious trauma.
Required:
- Cleared background check (fingerprinting)
- Valid TB test
- Valid 3+ years California driver’s license, reliable transportation, a clean driving record, and auto insurance that meets California minimum liability requirements.
- Must have completed or be willing to complete a 75-hour California State Domestic Violence and Sexual Assault Counselor certification. (Training will be provided).
- This position requires a Covid-19 vaccination due to the in-person interfacing required, and to promote the health and safety of others in the workplace and our community.
