Job Overview
Appalachian Council Head Start is seeking a Family Service Worker (FSW) to support children and families in Clay County. This position plays a vital role in strengthening family well-being by coordinating services, supporting family goals, and ensuring compliance with Head Start program requirements.
The Family Service Worker builds trusting relationships with families, conducts home visits, connects families with community resources, and supports enrollment and attendance through the Eligibility, Recruitment, Selection, Enrollment and Attendance (ERSEA) process. The position helps families develop goals that promote school readiness, stability, and long-term success while ensuring compliance with the Head Start Program Performance Standards (HSPPS).
Key Responsibilities
Family Support & Case Management
- Conduct home visits and maintain ongoing communication with families
- Coordinate the Family Partnership Process to help families identify goals and strengths
- Provide referrals to community resources including housing, employment, health services, education, and counseling
- Support families of children with disabilities in collaboration with program specialists
Enrollment & ERSEA Compliance
- Recruit eligible families and complete the enrollment and intake process
- Verify eligibility documentation including income, residency, and family information
- Monitor and support child attendance and follow up with families when needed
- Maintain waitlists and assist with program recruitment efforts
Family Engagement
- Encourage family participation in classroom activities, meetings, workshops, and leadership opportunities
- Support transitions into Head Start and from Head Start to kindergarten
- Build strong partnerships with parents and guardians
Documentation & Data Systems
- Maintain accurate child and family records in ChildPlus
- Complete timely case notes, referral documentation, and home visit summaries
- Ensure all required forms and compliance documentation are completed
Collaboration & Program Support
- Work closely with teachers, site supervisors, health staff, and program specialists
- Participate in professional development and required training
- Support community outreach and recruitment activities
Minimum Qualification
- Associate or Bachelor’s degree in Human Services, Social Work, or Education.
- Experience in social services, family engagement, or case management preferred
- Ability to obtain a credential in family services, human services, or related field within 18 months of hire
- Valid driver’s license, reliable transportation, and auto insurance
- Ability to pass background checks and required health screenings
- CPR/First Aid certification (may be obtained after hire)

Pay: $15.00 - $18.00 per hour
