Role and ResponsibilitiesUnder general supervision, performs entry level and semi-skilled maintenance and general labor tasks in Parks & Recreations Division, Code Enforcement, Street Division or Vehicle Maintenance. Seasonal Maintenance Workers will work to ensure that the City Cemeteries, Parks and Streets are attractive, orderly and healthy. Seasonal Maintenance Workers perform routine grounds keeping and tasks, assists in general maintenance work and operates a variety of light equipment as directed. ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIESPerforms manual labor grounds maintenance to city cemeteries, parks and vacant lots.Performs a variety of outdoor and indoor maintenance tasks such as sweeping, raking, picking up trash from grounds and roadside; shoveling and spreading mulch, gravel and soils. Painting of buildings and park equipment.Mows, edges, trims lawns, and trims trees and plants.May dig burial plots and ditches.Operates mowers, gas powered trimmers and blowers, chainsaws, vacuums and a variety of other small power tools.For Vehicle Maintenance, picks up and delivers equipment, materials, parts, and supplies as required.ABILITY TO: Operate and maintain a variety of maintenance equipment as required by the positionUse a variety of hand and small power tools skillfully and safely under a variety of work conditionsPerforms strenuous physical workRead, understand and follow safety rules and regulationsUnderstand and follow oral and written instructionsEstablish and maintain effective work relationships with superiors and co-workersDeal courteously and tactfully with the general publicUse common landscaping equipment, fuels and cleaning solutions skillfully and safely Qualifications and Education RequirementsApplicant must be at least 16 years of age and be able to provide all documents and permits required by state and federal law.Knowledge of routine manual labor work methods.Ability to understand and follow instructions; perform indoor and/or outdoor work for extended periods of time under varying and possibly adverse weather.Must pass a pre-employment drug test.AN EQUAL OPPORTUNITY EMPLOYER
