The Neurodiagnostic Monitor Technician is responsible for on-going surveillance of patients undergoing continuous/video EEG and provides seizure diagnostic technicians, RNs and/or clinicians with immediate notification of any changes. Recognizes normal and abnormal EEG waveform patterns and documents on patient record per departmental standards. Performs clerical duties related to admission, discharge, and documentation of patient information as needed.
Essential Functions and Responsibilities Includes the Following:
- Monitors patients undergoing continuous video EEG for safety.
- Alerts supervising seizure diagnostic technician of clinical/subclinical seizures or behavioral changes.
- Assists in monitoring all EMU patients to ensure patient safety.
- Recognizes normal and abnormal EEG waveform patterns and troubleshoots EEG reading in real time to minimize the risk of poor or incomplete data.
- Assists supervising seizure diagnostic technician as needed, including restocking supplies.
- Collaborates and communicates with health care team.
- Attends in-services and meetings as required/requested.
- Understands and adheres to the WPH Performance Standards, Policies and Behaviors. Performs all other related duties as assigned.
Education & Experience Requirements
- High school diploma or GED required.
- Will be trained in-house with 20 clinical observation hours and successful completion of didactic course (ASET LTM 100: Introduction to Long Term Monitoring for EMU Personnel).

Physical/Mental Demands/Requirements & Work Environment
May be exposed to chemicals necessary to perform required tasks. Any hazardous chemicals the employee may be exposed to are listed in the hospital’s SDS (Safety Data Sheet) data base and may be accessed through the hospital’s Intranet site (Employee Tools/SDS Access). A copy of the SDS data base can also be found at the hospital switchboard, saved on a disc.
