GENERAL DESCRIPTION:
Join the Wyoming State Fair Team as our new Maintenance & Operations Assistant Supervisor.
The Wyoming State Fairgrounds and Event Complex is seeking a motivated and experienced individual to support the year-round operations, maintenance, and event execution of one of Wyoming’s largest public event facilities. This role helps oversee more than 400 event days annually across a 137-acre campus with over 60 structures, while also supporting the production of the annual Wyoming State Fair.
This position plays a critical leadership role in ensuring facilities remain safe, functional, and event-ready through hands-on maintenance, grounds oversight, project coordination, staff support, and contractor management. The position also assists with major maintenance initiatives, capital construction coordination, and operational planning.
The ideal candidate will thrive in a fast-paced, event-driven environment that requires adaptability, strong communication, customer service, and the ability to balance multiple priorities simultaneously. This position operates on a Tuesday through Saturday schedule, typically from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., with additional overtime and extended hours required throughout the year based on event schedules and operational demands.

Provides operational support for the 137-acre Wyoming State Fairgrounds campus, including maintenance and oversight of more than 60 structures and grounds.

Assists with event logistics and support for more than 450 annual event days including building readiness, parking coordination, RV accommodations, and venue setup and teardown.

Supports the Maintenance & Operations Supervisor with inspections, facility troubleshooting, preventative maintenance scheduling, and seasonal operations including irrigation and snow removal.

Assists with planning, tracking, and documenting preventative and corrective maintenance tasks for buildings, equipment, and mechanical systems.

Supports inventory management for tools, parts, equipment, and operational supplies.

Assists with coordination and oversight of contractors, vendors, and service providers including janitorial, electrical, HVAC, landscaping, temporary staffing, and construction services.

Provides day-to-day supervision, direction, and mentorship to assigned operations staff and seasonal employees.

Assists with hiring, onboarding, scheduling, and performance management support for operations team members.

Serves as acting supervisor in the absence of the Maintenance & Operations Supervisor.

Assists with facility safety initiatives, training programs, Standard Task Objectives (STOs), and OSHA compliance efforts.

Responds to urgent facility, weather, or operational issues while ensuring public safety and minimizing disruptions.

Represents the Wyoming State Fairgrounds professionally with renters, contractors, vendors, partners, exhibitors, and the public.
PREFERENCES:
-
Experience in building and grounds maintenance, facility operations, event support, or construction coordination preferred.

Supervisory or team leadership experience preferred.
-
Experience coordinating vendors, contractors, or maintenance projects preferred.
-
Familiarity with preventative maintenance tracking and facility operations systems preferred.
-
Experience operating grounds and maintenance equipment preferred.
Preference may be given to the applicant with a current CDL license, but is not mandatory.
**Must be 18 years of age or older in order to operate any and all equipment which includes the operation of all power-driven machines.
**Must hold a valid Wyoming driver's license.
KNOWLEDGE:
-
Knowledge of building repair techniques including: painting, carpentry, boiler, plumbing and electrical repair.

Knowledge of the use of chemicals.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Education:
Bachelor's Degree
Experience:
0-1 year of progressive work experience (typically in Building and Grounds) with acquired knowledge at the level of a Building and Grounds Specialist
OR
Education & Experience Substitution:
3-4 years of progressive work experience (typically in Building and Grounds) with acquired knowledge at the level of a Building and Grounds Specialist
