Summary: The Public Affairs Coordinator plays a key role in advancing the mission of
Family Sunshine Center by strengthening the organization’s visibility,
advocacy efforts, and relationships within the community through public
education and engagement. The Public Affairs Coordinator further
supports the agency’s engagement in the local community through the
coordination of FSC’s Junior Board and special events, including logistical
coordination, event marketing, and reporting.
Public Affairs & Outreach: Community Events & Speaking Engagements
1. Represent the organization at community meetings, public forums, and outreach events speaking about, and educating others, regarding domestic violence, sexual assault, and human trafficking.
2. Build and maintain positive relationships with community partners, advocacy groups, and local stakeholders to strengthen collaboration and awareness of the organization’s mission.
3. Collaborate with the Volunteer Coordinator and FSC staff to ensure response to community requests, including scheduling, coordinating, and staffing outreach opportunities among civic groups, churches, schools and other outlets in the service area to build awareness for FSC mission and services.
4. Maintain inventory and collaborate with the Communications Specialist to update, as necessary, FSC’s resource library, both print and digital, ensuring staff and community outreach needs are met.
5. Maintain the highest level of professional standards when presenting, guiding meetings, corresponding, and developing printed and web-based material.
Junior Board
6. Serve as the agency liaison to the Junior Board by coordinating regular meetings, conducting orientation for new members, providing agency updates and volunteer opportunities, maintaining documentation and budget, as well as supporting their initiatives and activities.
Projects, Grants & Departmental Responsibilities
7. Work with the Executive Director, Development Director, and Executive Assistant to facilitate an inclusive annual Outreach/Public Affairs plan of action to actively promote FSC supportive services and campaigns prior to the beginning of each fiscal year and monitor progress ensuring goals and objectives are met.
8. Attend meetings within the agency that are pertinent to stated job responsibilities, including but not limited to staff development and training and Public Affairs and Development Committee.
9. Submit complete and accurate individual and project data, statistical reports, and evaluations, on a timely basis, and comply with other reporting requirements as required by agency policies and procedures.
Development: Special Events & Fundraisers
10. Serve as the agency lead for special event planning, execution, and documentation to include but not limited to facility procurement, attendee communication, registration, menu planning, and marketing coordination.
11. Spearhead the agency event planning team to ensure active collaboration with respect to the following areas of responsibility; Printed and web-based materials - Communication Specialist, Sponsor identification and management - Development Director, Event décor and design and board member engagement – Executive Assistant, and Volunteer needs – Volunteer Coordinator.
12. Manage all aspects of event-related silent auctions, from the identification and securing of silent auction items, to winner cash out and item delivery.
13. Serve as the agency liaison to FSC’s Event Committee and assist in researching and recommending new events to achieve fundraising goals, to raise awareness of the agency mission, and to help the agency maintain relevance in communities served.
14. Maintain an organized and current filing system for event files.
15. Perform other duties and tasks, as assigned.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent experience in Communications, Public Relations, Public Administration, or a related field with three years’ related experience

· Strong ability to build relationships and collaborate with diverse community stakeholders.
· Ability to focus and prioritize multiple projects simultaneously and meet deadlines with a high degree of proficiency.
· Commitment to the mission and values of supporting survivors and strengthening communities.
· Ability to communicate sensitive topics with professionalism, compassion, and respect.
· Strong computer skills in current Microsoft applications to include Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
· Demonstrate excellent organizational and project management skills including the ability to plan, prioritize and complete multiple projects with excellence and attention to detail.
· Knowledge of fundraising and event planning for non-profits preferred.
Work Environment
· This position will require occasional evening or weekend work to support community events, outreach initiatives, and advocacy activities.
Travel Requirements
Travel as needed and required by funding sources for training, meetings with other partners, or events; reliable transportation, valid driver’s license and liability insurance coverage is required.
