Job Summary: Fitzgerald Equipment Company is seeking an experienced Forklift and Aerial Equipment Technician to service customers in the Mattoon, Illinois, area. This position is intended for a skilled technician with strong diagnostic abilities who can independently troubleshoot, repair, and maintain material-handling and aerial equipment.
The ideal candidate will have extensive hands-on experience with forklifts and related equipment and take pride in providing safe, accurate, and professional service to our customers.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Diagnose and repair electrical, hydraulic, mechanical, fuel, cooling, brake, steering, and power train systems
- Troubleshoot equipment using wiring diagrams, service manuals, diagnostic software, and electrical test equipment
- Perform planned maintenance, safety inspections, and major repairs
- Service electric, LPG, gasoline, and diesel-powered forklifts
- Diagnose and repair scissor lifts, boom lifts, and other aerial equipment
- Identify additional repair needs and clearly document findings
- Complete service reports accurately and promptly
- Communicate professionally with customers, service coordinators, and other team members
- Maintain an organized service vehicle and comply with company and customer safety requirements
- Travel to customer locations in a company-provided service vehicle
Equipment Serviced
- Electric and internal-combustion forklifts
- Reach trucks, order pickers, pallet trucks, and other warehouse equipment
- Scissor lifts, boom lifts, and other aerial work platforms
- Sweepers and scrubbers
- Personnel carriers
- Dock equipment and related material-handling equipment
Experience and Qualifications
- Five or more years of forklift, heavy-equipment, agricultural-equipment, automotive, or industrial-equipment repair experience preferred
- Strong forklift and material-handling equipment experience is highly preferred
- Aerial equipment troubleshooting and repair experience is strongly preferred
- Advanced electrical and hydraulic diagnostic skills
- Ability to read electrical schematics and hydraulic diagrams
- Ability to work independently and manage field-service assignments efficiently
- Strong mechanical aptitude and problem-solving skills
- Professional communication and customer-service skills
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Valid driver’s license and acceptable driving record
- Ability to meet the physical requirements of the position, including lifting at least 50 pounds
- Must provide and maintain the hand tools normally required for the trade, in accordance with company policy
