Job Summary
The Special Education Teacher will provide specialized instruction and support to students with disabilities in accordance with their Individualized Education Programs (IEPs). This role focuses on helping students achieve academic, behavioral, social, and emotional success while collaborating with families and school staff.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide individualized and small-group instruction based on students' IEPs.
- Develop, implement, and monitor IEPs.
- Modify lessons and differentiate instruction to meet students' needs.
- Support students' academic, behavioral, social-emotional, and life skills development.
- Maintain compliance with state and federal special education regulations.
- Collaborate with general education teachers, parents, administrators, therapists, and support staff.
- Supervise paraprofessionals or teaching assistants as needed.
- Depending on the classroom assignment, assist with behavioral interventions, personal care, or the use of assistive technology.
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Special Education or a related field.
- Valid South Carolina Special Education certification in one of the following:
- Multi-Categorical
- Behavioral Disabilities
- Emotional Disabilities
- Candidates licensed in another state must apply for South Carolina reciprocity and provide proof that the reciprocity process has been initiated.
