Position Summary
DeHart Recycling Equipment is seeking a Service Technician based in the Kansas City area to support installation, maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of industrial recycling and material handling equipment. This role works primarily in the field, supporting customers across the Kansas City region, with regular communication and coordination with DeHart’s St. Louis headquarters.
Key Responsibilities
· Field Service & Technical Support
· Diagnose, troubleshoot, repair, and maintain industrial recycling equipment, including balers, shredders, conveyors, compactors, and related systems.
· Perform preventative maintenance inspections and service visits.
· Install and commission new and rebuilt equipment at customer sites.
· Identify worn or failing components and recommend corrective actions.
· Complete mechanical, hydraulic, and basic electrical repairs.
Customer Interaction
· Serve as a primary point of contact for customers during service calls.
· Communicate findings, recommendations, and next steps clearly and professionally.
· Promote preventative maintenance programs and service agreements when appropriate.
Documentation & Reporting
· Complete service reports, inspection checklists, and work order documentation.
· Track labor hours, parts used, and job notes accurately.
· Communicate with the Service Manager and Parts Department regarding required parts and follow-up work.
Safety & Compliance
· Follow all company and customer safety policies.
· Maintain clean, organized, and safe work practices.
· Properly use PPE and follow lockout/tagout procedures.
Required Qualifications
· 3–5 years of hands-on experience servicing industrial or heavy equipment.
· Strong mechanical troubleshooting skills.
· Working knowledge of hydraulic systems.
· Basic electrical troubleshooting ability.
· Ability to read and interpret schematics, manuals, and drawings.
· Comfortable working independently in the field.
· Strong communication and customer service skills.
Preferred Qualifications
· Experience with recycling, waste, or material handling equipment.
· Welding or fabrication experience.
· PLC or controls familiarity.
· OEM training or certifications.
Physical Requirements
· Ability to lift up to 75 lbs.
· Ability to climb, kneel, bend, and work in industrial environments.
· Ability to work indoors and outdoors in varying conditions.
Schedule & Travel
· Primarily Monday–Friday with occasional overtime.
· Regional travel within the Kansas City area and surrounding territory.
· Occasional travel to St. Louis headquarters for training and meetings.

What Success Looks Like
First 30 Days
· Complete onboarding and safety training.
· Become familiar with DeHart equipment lines, service procedures, and documentation standards.
· Shadow experienced technicians on service calls.
· Demonstrate proper use of tools, PPE, and safety practices.
First 60 Days
· Independently handle basic service calls and preventative maintenance visits.
· Accurately complete service reports and parts requests.
· Communicate clearly with customers and the internal team.
· Demonstrate a strong troubleshooting approach.
First 90 Days
· Independently manage a full schedule of service calls.
· Successfully diagnose and repair common mechanical and hydraulic issues.
· Build positive customer relationships.
· Require minimal supervision.
6–12 Months
· Trusted regional technician for the Kansas City territory.
· Consistent positive customer feedback.
· Low repeat service issues.

Pay: $30.00 - $33.00 per hour
