Job Summary
We're looking for a compassionate, dedicated male Direct Support Professional (DSP) to provide outstanding care to individuals with developmental disabilities, cognitive impairments, and age-related needs. In this important role, you'll help create a safe, supportive environment by assisting residents with daily activities, encouraging independence, and looking after their overall well-being. Responsibilities
- Help residents with Activities of Daily Living (ADLs); bathing, dressing, grooming, and mobility, using safe lifting and manual handling techniques.
- Take and record vital signs (blood pressure, pulse, temperature) to monitor health status.
- Assist with medication administration according to proper protocols and documentation standards.
- Offer companionship and engage residents in activities that encourage mental stimulation, social connection, and well-being.
- Respond to behavioral challenges with patience, using individualized behavior management strategies.
- Drive residents to appointments and community outings using a standard passenger vehicle, prioritizing safety at all times.
- Help keep resident spaces clean and organized, including light housekeeping and meal preparation, to support comfort and hygiene.
Qualifications
- Experience in assisted living or long-term care preferred; background in geriatrics, memory care, dementia or Alzheimer's care, and home/community-based care is a plus.
- Understanding of each resident's personal history to provide more personalized support.
- CPR and First Aid certification required; training in safe lifting techniques and medication administration is a plus.
- Experience supporting individuals with developmental disabilities or cognitive impairments is required.
- Able to perform heavy lifting as needed, including use of Hoyer lifts or similar assistive equipment.
- Strong communication skills for working effectively with residents and colleagues in a residential or group home setting.
- Valid driver's license and experience driving a standard passenger vehicle for transportation duties.
