The Activity Assistant plays a vital role in enhancing the quality of life for residents in assisted living facilities, nursing homes, and memory care units. Duties
- Plan and facilitate a variety of recreational activities tailored to the interests and abilities of residents.
- Assist in the development of activity schedules that promote social engagement and cognitive stimulation.
- Provide support to residents during activities, ensuring their safety and comfort.
- Collaborate with nursing staff to integrate therapeutic activities into residents' care plans.
- Document participation levels and feedback from residents to improve future programming.
- Engage with families to encourage participation in events and provide updates on resident involvement.
- Assist with personal care tasks as needed, including helping residents with Activities of Daily Living (ADLs).
- Foster a positive environment that encourages social interaction among residents.
Skills
- Strong event planning skills to create enjoyable and meaningful activities for seniors.
- Experience in assisted living or nursing home settings, particularly with Alzheimer’s care or dementia care.
- Background in recreational therapy or social work is highly desirable.
- Ability to work effectively with individuals with disabilities and understand aging issues.
- Excellent communication skills to interact positively with residents, families, and staff.
- Proficient in schedule management to ensure smooth operation of activity programs.
- Knowledge of caregiving practices and long-term care experience is beneficial.
