Kennel Supervisor Job Summary
We are looking for a dependable, experienced, and passionate Kennel Supervisor to join our team. This leadership role is ideal for someone with professional pet care experience who enjoys working with both animals and people. The Kennel Supervisor works alongside the kennel team, completing the same daily responsibilities as our kennel technicians while also helping oversee the daily operations of each shift.
In this position, you will assist the Kennel Manager by ensuring daily tasks are completed efficiently, maintaining a safe environment for our canine guests, supporting fellow staff members, and communicating important updates throughout the day. This is a hands-on leadership role that you can grow into through training and mentorship.
This is a full-time position. Tuesday and Sunday availability is required.
Responsibilities
- Assist the Kennel Manager with the day-to-day supervision of kennel staff.
- Lead by example by working alongside the team and completing all kennel technician responsibilities.
- Help oversee the daily flow of each shift to ensure all tasks are completed thoroughly and on schedule.
- Monitor playgroups to ensure safe interactions and appropriate behavior among dogs.
- Ensure all feeding schedules, medication instructions, and individualized care plans are followed accurately.
- Provide daily feedback to the Kennel Manager regarding staff performance, pet behavior, incidents, and overall shift operations.
- Document behavioral observations, incidents, and health concerns accurately.
- Feed, water, exercise, and provide exceptional daily care for dogs and cats.
- Clean and sanitize kennels, play areas, and all animal living spaces to maintain a safe and healthy environment.
- Monitor the health and well-being of all pets and promptly report concerns.
- Administer medications according to established instructions and protocols.
- Maintain accurate records using our kennel management software.
- Answer phones, assist customers, schedule reservations, and perform basic office duties.
- Deliver outstanding customer service by communicating professionally and compassionately with pet owners.
- Basic dog grooming (bathing, nail trims, etc)
- Assist with special events, enrichment activities, and seasonal programs for our boarding guests.
- Help foster a positive, supportive, and team-oriented work environment.
Qualifications
- Professional pet care experience is required.
- Reliability, punctuality, and a strong attendance record are essential.
- Previous supervisory or leadership experience is preferred.
- Passion for animal care and exceptional customer service.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to multitask, prioritize responsibilities, and adapt to changing situations.
- Excellent communication and leadership skills.
- Ability to motivate and support team members while maintaining a positive work environment.
- Comfortable handling dogs and cats of all breeds, sizes, temperaments, and energy levels, including group play settings.
- Knowledge of animal behavior, health, and general care practices.
- Ability to safely administer medications.
- Comfortable using computers and learning kennel management software.
- Ability to lift 50 pounds, bend, kneel, and remain on your feet for extended periods.
- Must work well in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment.
Preferred Qualifications
- 1+ year of professional pet care experience (required)
- 1+ year of supervisory or leadership experience (preferred)
- Experience as a veterinary technician, dog trainer, groomer, or in another animal care specialty is a plus.
