Established in 1970, Southside Virginia Community College (SVCC) is one of 23 colleges in the Virginia Community College System, with seven locations across several counties, including Brunswick, Charlotte, Nottoway, Mecklenburg, Greensville, and Halifax. Help SVCC students build strong foundations in drawing, creativity, and visual expression.
Join Southside Virginia Community College and shape creative futures by teaching ART 121 Foundations of Drawing. This is a UCGS transfer course designed to develop basic drawing skills and an understanding of visual language through studio instruction and lecture. The successful candidate must be committed to SVCC’s mission to provide high-quality education to the Southside Virginia community.
Applications will be received, reviewed, and considered continuously until needed positions are filled.
Course Content & Specific Duties:
- Introduce and demonstrate concepts such as line, proportion, space, perspective, value, and composition.
- Apply drawing concepts to subject matter including still life, landscape, and the figure.
- Instruct students in the use of various media, such as pencil, charcoal, and ink wash.
- Organize field trips and gallery assignments as appropriate to the curriculum.
- Deliver instruction in a hybrid format, ensuring high-quality course materials align with college standards.
- Maintain engagement through the college’s Canvas Learning Management System (LMS) for the online portion of the course.
- Monitor and document class attendance in compliance with college policies, maintaining accurate records and communicating with students and necessary departments as needed to support academic success.
