The Assistant Buyer supports purchasing and inventory decisions for assigned product categories across our retail stores, website, and roadshows. Working under the direction of a Buyer or Purchasing Manager, this role assists with sales analysis, purchase orders, product data, vendor communication, and new product research. The ideal candidate has hands-on horse experience, understands the western lifestyle, enjoys working with numbers, and is eager to learn the buying process.
Duties/Responsibilities:
- Assist with planning and tracking inventory levels for assigned product categories
- Create, update, and monitor purchase orders
- Communicate with vendors and help maintain strong vendor relationships
- Analyze sales and inventory data to identify trends and opportunities
- Maintain web products, item information, and product data accuracy
- Assist with data entry, reporting, and product setup
- Support sales forecasting and inventory planning
- Research new products, brands, and western industry trends
Required Skills/Abilities:
- Hands-on horse experience and a genuine interest in the western lifestyle and equine industry
- Working knowledge of common western tack and horse equipment; experience in any western discipline is welcome
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, including PivotTables, VLOOKUP/XLOOKUP, formulas, and sorting/filtering
- Comfortable learning from sales and inventory data and using it to support decisions
- Highly organized with strong attention to detail and time-management skills
- Self-motivated and able to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced office environment
- Quick learner who adapts well to new computer systems and processes
- Positive, gritty, team-oriented attitude with strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Retail, merchandising, purchasing, inventory, or related experience is a plus
Education and Experience:
College Degree OR
Purchasing Agent: 1 year
Procurement: 1 year
Physical Requirements:
- This is primarily an office-based position requiring prolonged periods sitting at a computer
- Must be able to occasionally lift up to 20 pounds
