Position Summary
Teklus Construction is seeking an experienced and driven Operations Lead to oversee and support day-to-day operational activities across projects, personnel, logistics, and field coordination. The Operations Lead serves as the working frontline supervisor for the Dugout Operations support team during the assigned shift. This hands-on role directs daily tarping and door-opening activities, coordinates support-team deployments to client and trade-partner personnel, monitors weather and ambient conditions to inform client operations decisions, ensures crew members execute work safely and per project procedures, and serves as the primary communication link between the field crew and the Operations Superintendent. The Operations Lead is expected to lead by example in safety, quality, and crew performance.

Job-Specific Responsibilities
- Monitor weather, wind, precipitation, and other ambient conditions throughout the shift, and communicate findings to client operations leads through group chats, verbal communication, and written means as appropriate.
- Direct daily tarping and door-opening activities at the crew level across both initial installation and ongoing operating phases of the project, including task assignment, sequencing, and pace management.
- Deploy and coordinate support teams to fulfill client and trade-partner access requests, ensuring teams remain with the requester until all doors are closed and secured.
- Attend daily logistics briefings, review the day's planned activities, and align the shift plan with the Operations Superintendent.
- Verify proper execution of tarp installation, roll-up procedures, and re-tarping operations per project procedures and manufacturer requirements.
- Confirm access doors are operated, opened, closed, and secured in correct sequence and that all locking mechanisms and safeguards are properly engaged.
- Enforce wind, temperature, and precipitation operating constraints; pause or modify operations when ambient conditions exceed established project thresholds.
- Inspect tarps, fasteners, fall protection, door hardware, and supporting equipment before and during each shift.
- Maintain availability and crew responsiveness via project communication channels for access requests throughout the operating day.
- Conduct shift-start huddles, toolbox talks, and end-of-shift debriefs with the crew.
- Coordinate handoffs with incoming and outgoing Operations Leads, including written turnover notes and walking handovers.
- Train, mentor, and develop Operations Technicians on tarp and door procedures, safety expectations, and quality standards.
- Troubleshoot equipment issues at the crew level and escalate to the Operations Superintendent when necessary.
- Maintain accurate shift logs, equipment use records, and operational documentation.
General Industry Responsibilities
- Lead by example on safety, quality, attendance, and professionalism.
- Reinforce PPE compliance, stop-work authority, and zero-tolerance expectations for unsafe behavior.
- Verify crew timekeeping accuracy and approve daily time entries.
- Support new-hire onboarding, training delivery, and skills certification.
- Partner with the EHS Professional on hazard identification, near-miss reporting, and corrective actions.
- Promote team accountability, continuous improvement, and adherence to Teklus Construction values.
- Communicate operational issues, manpower needs, and material flow status to the Operations Superintendent.
- Wear, inspect, and properly maintain all required PPE, including hard hat, safety glasses, hearing protection, gloves, high-visibility clothing, and fall protection equipment as required by task.
- Participate in pre-shift safety huddles, toolbox talks, and Job Hazard Analyses (JHAs).
- Comply with OSHA standards, Teklus Construction safety policies, and client-specific site requirements.
- Follow Lockout/Tagout (LOTO), confined space entry, hot work, fall protection, and hazard communication procedures.
- Exercise stop-work authority when unsafe conditions are observed and report hazards, near-misses, and incidents immediately.
- Maintain a clean, organized work area and follow established housekeeping standards.
- Report to shift on time, prepared, and fit for duty.
- Conduct accurate shift turnover with incoming and outgoing personnel, including verbal briefing and written log entries.
- Support cross-shift consistency by following established standard operating procedures (SOPs).
- Communicate operational status, equipment condition, and material flow to supervisors throughout the shift.
- Complete required documentation including daily reports, inspection logs, and timekeeping records.
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma, GED, or equivalent.
- Minimum 3 years of field experience in industrial, construction, or material handling operations, including at least 1 year in a lead, foreman, or comparable supervisory role.
- OSHA 30-Hour Construction certification.
- First Aid, CPR, and AED certification (or ability to obtain within 60 days of hire).
- Demonstrated ability to read and interpret SOPs, work plans, and equipment manuals.
- Strong verbal and written communication, mentoring, and conflict-resolution skills.
- Valid driver's license.
Preferred Qualifications
- Authorized OSHA 10-Hour Outreach Trainer.
- Competent Person designations in fall protection, confined space, and/or excavation.
- Forklift, telehandler, aerial lift, and rigging/signal person certifications.
- Prior experience with industrial tarping operations, access door operations, or similar field activities.
Physical Requirements & Working Conditions
- Ability to lift, carry, push, or pull up to 50 lbs regularly and 75 lbs occasionally.
- Ability to stand, walk, climb ladders and stairs, bend, stoop, and work overhead for extended periods.
- Ability to work at heights and in confined spaces with appropriate fall protection and training.
- Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions including heat, cold, rain, snow, and wind.
- Tolerance for exposure to dust, noise, vibration, and proximity to moving equipment and vehicles.
- Ability to work rotating shifts including nights, weekends, and holidays as required by operational needs.
Shift Coverage
This position operates on a 24/7 schedule with positions filled across all three shifts:
- 1st Shift (Day) — 6:00 AM to 2:00 PM
- 2nd Shift (Swing) — 2:00 PM to 10:00 PM
- 3rd Shift (Night) — 10:00 PM to 6:00 AM
Shift differential pay may apply for 2nd and 3rd shift positions per company policy.
