Maintenance & Fleet Manager
Department: Operations – Rebar Fabrication Division
Reports To: Rebar Division Operations Manager / President
Location: Decatur, Alabama
Status: Full-Time
Position Summary
The Maintenance & Fleet Manager is responsible for maximizing the reliability, safety, and efficiency of all production equipment, facilities, vehicles, trailers, forklifts, and support equipment. This position leads preventative maintenance programs, manages repairs, supervises maintenance personnel, and ensures the company's fleet remains compliant, safe, and operating at peak performance.
The ideal candidate is highly organized, mechanically inclined, experienced in industrial maintenance, and capable of leading maintenance operations in a fast-paced steel fabrication environment.
Primary ResponsibilitiesEquipment Maintenance
- Develop and manage a comprehensive preventative maintenance (PM) program.
- Maintain all rebar fabrication equipment including:
- Shears
- Benders
- Combination machines
- Conveyors
- Rollers
- Air compressors
- Hydraulic systems
- Pneumatic systems
- Troubleshoot mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic, and electrical failures.
- Coordinate emergency repairs to minimize production downtime.
- Maintain maintenance logs and repair histories.
- Schedule major repairs during planned production downtime.
- Manage equipment warranties and service agreements.
- Recommend equipment upgrades and capital improvements.
Fleet Management
Manage all company-owned vehicles and rolling assets including:
- CDL Trucks
- Flatbed Trucks
- Pickup Trucks
- Trailers
- Forklifts
- Yard Equipment
Responsibilities include:
- Create preventative maintenance schedules.
- Schedule routine servicing.
- Coordinate outside repair vendors.
- Maintain DOT inspection records.
- Monitor vehicle registration and licensing.
- Track fuel usage.
- Monitor fleet maintenance costs.
- Coordinate tire replacement programs.
- Schedule annual inspections.
- Ensure all fleet equipment remains roadworthy and OSHA/DOT compliant.
- Maintain repair history for every vehicle.
- Coordinate replacement planning for aging fleet assets.
Facility Maintenance
Responsible for maintaining:
- Warehouse
- Fabrication Shop
- Offices
- Storage Yard
- Lighting
- HVAC
- Electrical systems
- Plumbing
- Security systems
- Fencing
- Concrete surfaces
- Overhead doors
Inventory Management
- Maintain inventory of maintenance supplies.
- Maintain spare parts inventory.
- Order repair parts.
- Manage vendor relationships.
- Negotiate pricing with suppliers.
- Reduce emergency purchases through planning.
Team Leadership
- Supervise maintenance technicians.
- Schedule maintenance personnel.
- Train employees on equipment care.
- Develop standard operating procedures.
- Hold team members accountable.
- Conduct performance evaluations.
- Assist production personnel with equipment operation improvements.
Safety & Compliance
Ensure compliance with:
- OSHA regulations
- DOT requirements
- Lockout/Tagout procedures
- Forklift inspections
- Fire safety requirements
- Preventative maintenance documentation
- Equipment guarding requirements
- Company safety policies
Lead investigations into equipment failures and implement corrective actions.
Budget Responsibilities
- Prepare annual maintenance budgets.
- Monitor maintenance expenses.
- Evaluate repair versus replacement decisions.
- Control maintenance costs while maximizing equipment uptime.
- Recommend capital expenditures.

Required Qualifications
- 5+ years industrial maintenance experience
- 3+ years leadership or supervisory experience
- Experience maintaining heavy industrial equipment
- Strong mechanical aptitude
- Experience with hydraulic systems
- Experience with pneumatic systems
- Experience troubleshooting electrical control systems
- Welding and fabrication experience preferred
- Forklift maintenance experience
- Fleet maintenance experience
- Valid driver's license
- CDL preferred but not required

Within the first 12 months, the Maintenance & Fleet Manager will:
- Achieve a 98% or greater preventative maintenance completion rate

- Implement a documented maintenance tracking system
- Reduce emergency repair costs through proactive maintenance
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe maintenance shop

Pay: $70,000.00 - $90,000.00 per year
