Position Summary
Green New Energy Materials (GNEM) is seeking a detail-oriented Quality Assurance (QA) Engineer to support the quality management system for our lithium-ion battery separator manufacturing operations. This position is responsible for developing and maintaining quality standards, supporting process validation, investigating quality issues, and driving continuous improvement initiatives to ensure products consistently meet customer and regulatory requirements.
The QA Engineer will work closely with Production, Process Engineering, Quality Control, Maintenance, Supply Chain, and EHS to improve manufacturing processes, reduce defects, and maintain compliance with industry standards.
Bilingual proficiency in English and Korean is required to effectively communicate with Korean headquarters, technical teams, suppliers, and equipment manufacturers.
Essential Responsibilities
- Develop, implement, and maintain quality assurance procedures, work instructions, and inspection standards.
- Support the Quality Management System (QMS) and ensure compliance with company policies and applicable industry standards.
- Analyze production and quality data to identify trends, improve process capability, and reduce product variation.
- Lead investigations into customer complaints, internal nonconformances, and production quality issues using structured root cause analysis methodologies.
- Implement and verify corrective and preventive actions (CAPA).
- Support Process Engineering during new equipment installation, process validation, and production startup activities.
- Develop quality documentation including control plans, inspection procedures, sampling plans, and standard operating procedures.
- Partner with Quality Control to review inspection results, laboratory testing, and product disposition decisions.
- Conduct internal quality audits and participate in supplier quality evaluations.
- Monitor key quality performance indicators and prepare reports for management.
- Support continuous improvement initiatives using Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma, and statistical analysis tools.
- Collaborate with suppliers to resolve material quality issues and improve incoming material performance.
- Assist with customer audits, third-party audits, and regulatory inspections.
- Train production personnel on quality standards, procedures, and best practices.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
QualificationsRequired
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Materials Science, Quality Engineering, or a related technical field.
- Bilingual in English and Korean (speaking, reading, and writing).
- Three or more years of quality engineering experience in a manufacturing environment.
- Experience with Quality Management Systems (QMS) and quality documentation.
- Knowledge of statistical process control (SPC), process capability analysis, and quality data analysis.
- Experience performing root cause analysis using methodologies such as 5 Why, Fishbone Diagram, or Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (FMEA).
- Strong understanding of manufacturing processes and quality assurance principles.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Excel and other Microsoft Office applications.
- Excellent analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
Preferred
- Experience in battery manufacturing, lithium-ion materials, film manufacturing, plastics, chemical processing, semiconductor, or other advanced manufacturing industries.
- Knowledge of ISO 9001, IATF 16949, or other manufacturing quality standards.
- Experience with Statistical Process Control (SPC), Minitab, or other statistical software.
- Lean Manufacturing or Six Sigma certification (Green Belt or Black Belt).
- Experience with supplier quality management and customer quality requirements.
- Internal Auditor certification is a plus.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to work in both office and manufacturing environments.
- Ability to stand and walk throughout the production facility for extended periods.
- Occasionally lift up to 25 pounds.
- Must be able to wear required personal protective equipment (PPE) while in production areas.
