Position Details
- Location: Phoenix, AZ (100% Onsite)
- Employment Type: Contract
- Reports To: Controller
- Payroll Volume: Approximately 450 employees across multiple states
What You'll Do
As our Payroll Specialist, you'll own the payroll process from start to finish while ensuring compliance with complex multi-state regulations, especially California payroll laws. Responsibilities include:
- Process accurate bi-weekly payroll for approximately 450 employees.
- Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local payroll regulations, with strong expertise in California wage and hour laws.
- Review and reconcile timekeeping data before each payroll cycle.
- Process off-cycle payrolls, manual checks, and final pay.
- Administer garnishments, child support orders, and payroll deductions.
- Maintain payroll records and employee pay data within ADP Workforce Now.
- Coordinate year-end payroll activities including W-2 processing.
- Support payroll, workers' compensation, general liability, and internal audits.
- Partner closely with HR, Finance, and Operations to improve payroll processes and maintain data integrity.
What We're Looking For
Required Qualifications
- 2–5 years of multi-state payroll processing experience.
- Strong knowledge of California payroll laws and compliance.
- Experience processing payroll for 300+ employees.
- ADP Workforce Now experience.
- Advanced Excel skills including Pivot Tables, VLOOKUPs, and data reconciliation.
- Exceptional attention to detail and ability to meet strict payroll deadlines.
- High level of professionalism handling confidential employee information.
Preferred
- Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business, or related field.
- CPP or FPC certification.
- Experience supporting hourly workforces in facilities services, janitorial, hospitality, construction, or similar industries.
