Job Overview
We are seeking a Board Certified Psychiatrist to provide onsite psychiatric services at a Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) Medical Center under a federal contract. This is a 0.64 FTE contract position (1,250 hours annually) requiring coverage on Saturdays, Sundays, and Federal Holidays from 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM (Eastern Time). The psychiatrist will deliver comprehensive inpatient and outpatient mental health services, including psychiatric evaluations, diagnosis, treatment planning, medication management, patient follow-up, and discharge planning.
Hours of Operation/SCHEDULING: Weekend and Holiday onsite coverage hours are from 0800 – 1600 (8:00AM until 4:00PM) Eastern Standard Time, Saturday, Sunday and Holidays.
Duties and Responsibilities
All psychiatrists will be required to work in collaboration with Mental Health staff who are part-time or full time salaried by the VA for inpatient care duties including but not limited to:
- Operating and collaborating physician’s patients
- Seeing 1C/1D Psychiatry Service - Ward Patients.
- Admitting
- Diagnosis of patients
- Developing Treatment Plans
- Managing, including the performance of timely treatment
- Discharge/Transfer
- Including all medical record documentation needed
- Outpatient Care
- Seeing all new patient referrals with accompanying medical records
- Seeing severely mental ill patients
- Evaluation disposition E-consult
- Post-discharged follow up
- Patients must be seen by provider in 30 days
Clinic physician(s) shall provide clinical psychiatry services. Clinical duties include direct patient care. the physician (s)shall operate the clinic, examine patients, and interpret reports as required by the VA. shall be present and on time for any scheduled clinics as documented by physical presence in the clinic. Will be required to work with VA staff. Approximate case load is as follows:
- 6 to 6.5 patient bookable hours per day.
- 6 patients for an hour each or roughly 12 patients for one half each; or any combination of one-hour and one-half hour appointment per day totaling 6 to 6.5 bookable patient hours per day.
- Shall provide professional Psychiatry Service with Mental expertise for peer review of selected cases. This shall include, but not be limited to: tort claims, patient family complaints, Mental Health case reviews, peer reviews, and Health case reviews, peer reviews, and benefit appeals.
- Physician and VA Chief of Mental Health shall prepare monthly call schedules for coverage of Mental Health emergencies. A draft schedule shall be submitted to the office of the VA Chief, Mental Health Service/Administrative Officer within five (5) working days prior to the end of each month.
- Mechanisms must be in-place to provide notification of test results for patients receiving care in accordance with VHA Directive 1088, Communicating Test Results to Providers and Patients.
- Physician(s) shall follow all established medication policies and procedures. No sample medications shall be provided to patients.
- Provide discharge education and follow up instructions that are coordinated with the next care setting for all emergency department patients.
1. QUALIFICATIONS:
The physician(s) assigned shall perform the services and have a current license to practice medicine in any State, Territory, or Commonwealth of the United States or the District of Columbia when services are performed onsite on VA property.
- Shall be Board Certified by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology and be currently certified in
- Basic Life Support (BLS)
- Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) or equivalency. All continuing education courses required for maintaining certification must be kept up to date at all times. Documentation verifying current certification shall be provided
- Shall be technically proficient in the skills necessary to fulfill the government’s requirements, including the ability to speak, understand, read and write English fluently.
Pay: From $245.00 per hour
