Job Role
We are seeking Cleared or Non-Cleared Junior Systems Engineers supporting the Department of War (DoW) assists with the design, implementation, integration, operation, and maintenance of mission-critical IT systems supporting military, logistics, financial, and administrative operations. The role works under the direction of senior systems engineers and technical leads to analyze requirements, configure and maintain technology environments, troubleshoot system issues, support system integration, and document technical solutions.
Typical Responsibilities
· Assist with system requirements analysis and technical solution development.
· Support the design, configuration, testing, and deployment of IT systems and applications.
· Assist with system integration between enterprise applications, databases, APIs, and infrastructure.
· Monitor system performance and help identify and resolve technical issues.
· Perform troubleshooting and root-cause analysis under senior engineering guidance.
· Support cloud and on-premises environments, including AWS, Azure, or government cloud platforms where applicable.
· Assist with system upgrades, patches, configuration changes, and software deployments.
· Develop and maintain system documentation, architecture diagrams, configuration documentation, and Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
· Support cybersecurity and compliance activities, including security configuration and vulnerability remediation.
· Participate in testing and validation, including integration testing, system testing, and user acceptance testing.
· Support data migration, interfaces, and application connectivity.
· Assist with system performance, availability, and capacity monitoring.
· Coordinate with developers, cybersecurity personnel, network engineers, database administrators, vendors, and government stakeholders.
· Follow DoW policies, engineering standards, change-management procedures, and security requirements.
Typical Experience
· 1–3 years of professional IT or systems engineering experience.
· Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Systems Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related discipline; equivalent experience may substitute.
· Understanding of operating systems, networking, databases, applications, and system architecture.
· Familiarity with cloud technologies and enterprise IT environments.
· Experience with technical documentation and troubleshooting.
· Basic understanding of cybersecurity principles and government security requirements.
· Ability to work within structured configuration and change-management processes.
· Strong analytical, problem-solving, communication, and documentation skills.
Valuable DoW-Specific Technical Knowledge
· Systems Engineering: requirements, system design, integration, and testing.
· Cloud: AWS, Azure, and government cloud environments.
· Infrastructure: Windows/Linux, servers, and virtualization.
· Networking: TCP/IP, DNS, VPNs, and firewalls.
· Databases: SQL Server, Oracle, and PostgreSQL.
· Integration: REST APIs, middleware, ETL, and enterprise interfaces.
· Cybersecurity: RMF, STIGs, vulnerability management, and access controls.
· DevOps: Git, CI/CD, and automated deployment.
· Monitoring: system performance, logs, alerts, and availability.
· Documentation: architecture diagrams, SOPs, and technical specifications.
Mission-Focused Role
On a large DoW program, the Junior Systems Engineer serves as a hands-on technical contributor between system users and senior engineering or architecture teams. The position is generally focused on implementing, supporting, testing, troubleshooting, and documenting systems under the direction of senior engineers. Summary
Pay: $105,000.00 - $135,000.00 per year
