The Office of Research Protections and Integrity (ORPI) provides oversight, education, and support for integrity and compliance issues related to research at UNC Charlotte. Our staff promotes ethical and high-quality research by partnering with faculty, staff, and students in navigating the evolving regulatory environment.
Primary Purpose of Position
This position serves as the university’s Export Control and Facility Security Officer with responsibilities for research facility security, ITAR, EAR, foreign travel, and foreign visitor screening. In addition, this position will serve as the Research Security Officer, being the liaison of a research security program coordinating efforts among various stakeholders.
Summary of Position Responsibilities
Advise, educate, and consult with University administration, faculty, and staff at all levels to ensure compliance with the International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR), Export Administration Regulations (EAR), the Office of Foreign Assets Controls (OFAC) regulations, Research Security requirements, and other import/export laws.
Minimum Education/Experience
Bachelor’s degree and two years of relevant experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Preferred Education, Knowledge, Skills and Experience
- Knowledge of U.S. trade controls, including International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR), Export Administration Regulations (EAR), and Office of Foreign Asset Control (OFAC) regulations, to provide analytical support to ensure compliance with internal policies and federal regulations.
- Sufficient understanding of technology and the CCL and USML to work with investigators and technicians in making accurate technology classifications and licensing determinations.
- Knowledge of immigration requirements and information security.
- Ability to read and apply information from regulatory and legal resources such as laws, statutes, and other legally binding resources.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
- Intermediate experience with word processing and spreadsheet programs.
- Intermediate data and information management.
- Customer service.
- Problem-solving.
- Educator or training experience.
