Job Summary
We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) to join our healthcare team. The Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) provides direct nursing care and supportive services to children and adolescents residing in a Psychiatric Residential Treatment Facility (PRTF). The LPN works under the supervision of a Registered Nurse (RN) and/or Licensed Mental Health Professional (LMHP) to ensure the health, safety, and emotional well-being of residents in accordance with the treatment plan, nursing standards, and facility policies.
Duties
- Provide direct patient care, including administering medications, treatments, and basic nursing procedures as prescribed by the physician or RN.
- Observe and document residents’ physical and emotional condition, behavior, and response to treatment.
- Participate in the development and implementation of individualized treatment plans in collaboration with the interdisciplinary team.
- Maintain accurate and timely documentation in the medical record per facility and LDH standards.
- Monitor vital signs, collect specimens, and perform basic laboratory tests as needed.
- Respond promptly to medical and psychiatric emergencies, following facility protocols.
- Assist with admissions, discharges, and transfers of residents.
- Promote a safe and therapeutic environment, utilizing de-escalation techniques and trauma-informed care practices.
- Educate residents about health topics such as medication compliance, hygiene, nutrition, and coping skills.
- Communicate effectively with residents, families, and treatment team members to support continuity of care.
- Report any incidents, injuries, or suspected abuse/neglect immediately per facility policy and state regulation.
- Participate in staff meetings, training, and quality improvement initiatives.
- Ensure medication storage, handling, and documentation comply with state and federal laws.
- Support behavioral interventions consistent with treatment goals and facility behavioral support plans.
- Utilize EMR/EHR systems for effective patient record management.
Qualifications
- Education: Graduate of an accredited School of Practical Nursing.
- Licensure: Current Louisiana LPN license in good standing with the Louisiana State Board of Practical Nurse Examiners (LSBPNE).
- Minimum 1 year of nursing experience preferred; experience in behavioral health, psychiatric, or residential settings strongly desired.
- Current CPR/BLS certification (required).
- CPI (Crisis Prevention Intervention) or equivalent behavioral management training (required or obtained within 30 days of hire).
- Understanding of psychiatric disorders and behavioral health interventions.
- Strong assessment, observation, and critical thinking skills.
- Ability to maintain composure in crisis situations and respond appropriately.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to work collaboratively as part of a multidisciplinary team.
- Familiarity with LDH and CMS standards for PRTF operations.

Pay: $26.00 - $28.00 per hour
