Regional Recycling Managers interact with management at all levels, employees, and vendors to provide direction and guidance related to operational and procedural activities in accordance with goals and objectives. This position oversees all operational aspects of the business within assigned location(s). Regional Recycling Managers manage the day-to-day operations, establish and maintain performance and productivity metrics and operating procedures, and ensures standards are met.
Responsibilities of Position:
- Formulate short- and long-term goals and action plans with the senior management
- Prepare and present reports as necessary. Maintain proper records and files including all compliance and personnel records
- Comply with and enforce company policies and procedures ensuring all tasks are performed in a safe manner in compliance with all local, state, and federal regulations and company policies
- Establish and monitor budget for region recycling facilities and manage all operations to established budgetary goals & objectives while improving processes, procedures, and performance
- Represent the company to Solid Waste Districts, municipalities, and businesses
- Manage the day-to-day recycling operations of the assigned region and provide daily support to managers in ensuring quality and budget performance
- Conduct and facilitate weekly/monthly operational meetings to ensure action plans, P&L, and organizational objectives meet or exceed expectations
- Analyze, monitor, review and recommend cost effective solutions in accordance with goals and objectives defined by senior management
- Respond, recommend, and take proactive measures to increase recycling profitability within the region
- Manage staff, including hiring, training, performance management, counseling, safety, etc.
- Interact with local, state, and federal government employees to resolve concerns and ensure regulatory compliance standards are met
- Oversee maintenance of recycling machines and equipment to ensure optimal results while controlling maintenance costs
- Perform other duties as assigned
Supervisory Responsibility:
- This position will manage 6-10 employees
- This position will oversee and direct other managers
Skills & Abilities Needed for Position:
- Very strong leadership, presentation, negotiation and organizational, skills required
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills with all levels of the organization
- Demonstrated problem solving, analytical, critical thinking and decision-making skills
- Demonstrated ability to lead and direct a large staff
- Process and results oriented with a commitment to organizational success
- Ability to prioritize work and the placement of personnel, equipment, and material
- Computer skills; proficient in Windows and Microsoft applications; AS400 a plus
- Ability to interact with customers to resolve issues and promote positive public relations for the Rumpke brand
Experience & Knowledge Needed for Position:
- Recycling commodity market experience
- Knowledge of consuming mill quality and contamination standards required
- Knowledge of safety regulations, requirements, and compliance laws (OSHA, EPA)
Physical Requirements in a Regular Workday:
- Occasionally lifting/carrying/pushing/pulling a max of 35 lbs
- Rarely lifting/carrying/pushing/pulling a max of 100 lbs
- Frequently working outside in changing temperatures, wet/humid conditions
- Continuously working in areas of dust, odors, mist, gases, and other airborne matter
- Occasionally stooping/kneeling/crouching/crawling
- Occasionally climbing and/or balancing
- Frequently sitting/standing/walking
Additional Working Conditions/Aspects:
- Must be at least 19 years of age
- No more than 3 moving violations within the last 2 years
- Must not have any DUI's or OVI's within the last 5 years or 2 in the last 10 years
- Possible exposure to high traffic conditions and/or tight driving areas
- Exposure to residential and commercial waste
- Ability to travel between offices, as required
- Ability to work flexible hours; expected to work nights and weekends as needed
- Ability to work overtime, weekends, and/or holidays
- Must be available for 24-hour emergency calls
- Legally eligible to work in the United States
- Valid driver’s license (if applicable)
- Must successfully complete pre-employment testing
- Must be able to read and speak the English language
