Scope of Responsibility:
The Director of Communications and Development will oversee all internal and external communications for Chautauqua Striders. He/she will help determine marketing strategies, write press releases, and help manage the website and social media accounts. Development duties include working with the Executive Director and Board of Directors to achieve fundraising goals, diversify revenue, utilize data from the donor management system to develop donation targets and cultivate relationships with donors, volunteers and stakeholders.
Essential Functions:
- Supports the overarching mission and vision of Chautauqua Striders, reinforcing and strengthening community partnerships and expanding current outreach processes
- Work with ED and Fund Development Committee to meet revenue goals through strategic processes, marketing and communications
Areas of Focus:
Grants and Reporting
- Assist with grant research, applications and management
- Assist with completion of reports for appropriate funding sources as requested
- Seek and pursue new funding opportunities
Outreach
- Make community presentations for educational and promotional purposes
- Assist with expansion of programming into other school districts
- Assist with positive promotion of all programs by creating media releases (newspaper, social media, radio, newsletter, etc.) to promote past, ongoing or upcoming events
- Assist with development and design of promotional materials for the organization
Events and Fundraising
- Help secure donations and sponsorships for Chautauqua Striders fundraising events
- Research and participate in new fundraising opportunities and assist with current annual fundraising efforts (i.e. Give Big CHQ)
Donor Management
- Actively track donations in the donor management system and assist with the development and implementation of a donor cultivation plan
- Work with ED to set goals around annual contributions including ways to attract new donors, retain previous donors and recognize individual contributions
Communications Management
- Assist with oversight and updates to Chautauqua Striders website
- Ensure regular online community engagement via social media
- Provide reports and recommendations to the ED and Board as needed
- Oversee creation of Chautauqua Striders’ Annual Report
- Establish policies and structure for outgoing communications
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in relevant field and/or experience in managing organizational communications and development, strong written and oral communication skills, excellent organizational skills, sound judgment, and ability to work with diverse individuals and groups, experience with fundraising and grant writing, computer savvy (expertise with Microsoft 365, Teams, Canva, various social media platforms and donor management systems strongly preferred)
